AT&T Galaxy SIII 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

updated my galaxy s3 to 4.3 this morning and my battery seems to be running a little better but i have 2 issues that are driving me CRAZY.

I hate that when i receive a text message it shows up on my lock screen (who its from AND part of the message). If i disable that i'll get a big ugly box that says "new message" when i get a text and then when i check my notification pull down it just says "new message" and it doesn't say who its from. so im really left with no choice .. either it just freely shows my text msg (isnt that the point of a locksreen?? for privacy??) or i dont know who is texting me. SO STUPID.

I also dont like that the quick camera access from the lockscreen doesnt work either ... i have my lockscreen security set to pattern and since i updated to 4.3 quick camera access doesnt work

However, I too have the same issue with the notifications popping up continuously for the downloaded files. You can clear the notifications, but they will reappear after awhile.

Mike

I had the same issue. I was able to resolve it by going to the 'Download Manager' in application manager and delete it's data and cache.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

You do NOT want to upgrade to Android 4.3.
It is BUGGY, and should NEVER have been released to the trusting Android users... the trust is now gone.

Once you load this crappy version, you can never go back... your phone will have horrible battery drain, your sounds will be all screwed up, your phone will strobe the light, dropbox will delete everything losing all your data for good, and there will be many other stupid blunders. Android internal programs will eat up 55% of your battery, consume 100's of MB of data, and no one can figure out why. My 8 hour phone now lasts for 2 hours and the space is all consumed.

Do not wish for an upgrade just for the sake of an upgrade... keep the devil you know versus the one you do not know. Make you appreciate what you had.

Go and delete the files in the download folder. This fixed this problem for me.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Very good solution... thank you very much, was really annoying, but I need to add that after checking the Flash-blinking option and uncheck it, you need to restart your phone

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

another fix: two updates ago the phone got an annoying habit. If I brought up the keypad to send touchtones during a call, then pressed a button prior to the call connecting, the keypad was subsequently inert. No more. Now if I inappropriately touch a key, I can still send touchtones after the call connects.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Likes, Likes, Likes!! I am REALLY liking the update.. Battery performance totally rocks.. I'm not a power user and am on WiFi most of the time. After installing the update about 2 days ago after charging my battery is at 64% after 24 hours.. Amazing.. I also like the new Notification bar design, animations for email and opening apps, settings layout. Am curious if anyone has used the voice activation feature.. I was playing with it last night with the camera and it works great! You just open the camera, point and say "Shoot" and BANG!.. it clicks the shutter :) I realize it's possible this feature was in 4.1.2, but I don't remember seeing it :)

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

17 days - Still waiting for the software to be pushed to my phone. Does anyone have any other ideas by which I can update the phone?

AT&T technical support called me day before yesterday, and said that they are actively working on fixing the issue. They gave me a $25 credit to try and shut me up and said that if I don't receive an update in two days, they will work again to fix it.

Any help is much appreciated. Even a way to escalate this at AT&T works.

@ VishD

What OS version are you running?

I'm still on 4.0.4. Between AT&T and Samsung, neither can tell me if the OTA will upgrade my phone to 4.3 from 4.0.4. Patiently waiting. Downloading the files from XDA is always an option, but I'd rather recieve the OTA.

I am at 4.1.2.

Technically I should have received the 4.3 update by now as everyone else seems to have received it, but AT&T messed up. Something is off at their system, which is not allowing me to get the update. I just don't want to wipe off the system and start again, which is why I am not downloading any ROM's.

Does XDA have the original update files, which update without wiping off the existing data?

Is anyone having trouble changing the camera app shortcuts to keep?

Once I properly close the camera app (not just switch to another app) and reopen it, the shortcuts revert to default.

Also, why wouldn't the update keep the dang tones/ringtones you had setup???

The files on XDA will perform a data wipe after installing. You can load the files from your external SD card and upgrade directly. However, the thread post states quite clearly, data will be wiped as part of the process. I wish that this one was available through KIES.

I have tried over ten times now. Always dies after 26% of the installation process is complete. This is of course after three hours of downloading the update file. Going to have to take it to the warranty center in town.

I noticed there is a new "clear defaults" option if I long press the home button and select the pie looking thing. Dunno if it's new but it's the new default when that option is selected. Used to be ram manager.

Updated my S3 to 4.3 about a week ago. Since then my battery life has decreased. My tether widget no longer works and the phone is slower. Now my assist light (camera LED) flashes everytime I get a call. I do not have a flash program installed to cause this and I can not find anything on this issue or how to turn it off. I Also have several apps that are now "buggy" after the update. Oh yeah, it also defaulted all my sound settings! Worst update ever.

RE: Buggy apps - Sometimes apps need to recreate their data to work with new versions of the operating systems. Try deleting cache and data for these apps, uninstalling them, then installing them from the Play Store again.

Anyone else besides me REALLY liking the update.. I've only had it a couple of days or so, and just got my first dose of the messaging notification on the lock screen which is VERY cool!.. I'm LOVING this on all fronts.. GREAT battery life, much smoother/faster performance and all around GREAT update!..Can't wait to see what we get with 4.4!!

I have had the update for awhile and I am just starting to get problems with my battery going too fast. Will a factory reset fix this?

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Fixed the issue performing a Master Reset. It was a pain having to back up everything but it solved the issue. Now everything is working as intended. No other issues have come up.

What issue did you resolve? I seem to be having trouble finding your original post..

Overall, I like it. The persistent notification icons for NFC, Smart Stay, Bluetooth, and Blocking Mode p!ss me off. They take up too much space and you can't turn them off.

I don't like that you can only get lockscreen widgets with no security...Can't do it with PIN lock. And I think battery life is a little worse and that there is diminished touch sensitivity on the lock screen.

All minor annoyances, with no major problems.

Otherwise, I'm very happy with the update.
