AT&T Galaxy SIII 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

The only issue that I've run into so far is that my battery life seems just a couple of hours shorter. Fortunately I have the official extended battery so I get through a full day of moderate/heavy use without problem.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

I'm probably in the minority but I do not like the new lock screen. I liked it so much better when you could swype the circle notification and it took you straight to your text messages. I unchecked the "preview message" box that keeps my message text from showing on the text box in the lock screen but the awkward looking text box still shows up. I downloaded and started using Dash Clock, which is great but whenever I get a text the lock screen defaults to the awkward looking text box notification and not the dash clock interface? Is there any way to keep the default text box notification from showing up without turning off vibration and sound all together? Or having the text notification show on the dash clock only? I'm probably being overly picky but I think the old text notification was much more convenient. Thanks!

Ok I would be careful transferring your apps to your SD card now. After transferring a half dozen I got the message that it would not transfer. Then my SD card crashed and now I have lost everything on my card. 1000 pics hours of music and all my transferred apps. Anyone know how to recover my data?

I didn't have any problems moving apps to the SD card. I got a notification that some of the ones in the list couldn't be moved...but then they moved. I don't seem to be having an issue with any of the apps that I moved to the SD card.

I NEED HELP / ADVISE .... I found in the settings -> tab MORE ... Security -> Dev. Admin. --- KNOX is listed? I thought we were not getting it? Or is this just for the future? Anyone have any insight? **Also - still can't figure out how to solve battery drain. PLEASE HELP WITH THAT!!! It's draining so fast and charges very slow. I've set all my settings back to min. as possible and dimmed my lights, etc. (I know how to conserve the energy...) so anyone ????? ****And - one last thing ....can't seem to change my "shortcut icons" on my home screen - anyone have this problem and know how to fix? That's the only problems I seem to be having (thus far)!! ;)

We have knox now. I haven't looked much into how it works, if you have to be an IT Admin at a business to use it or if you can set it up yourself, I don't know. Just don't enable it. The battery drain has been my only thing I've noticed, but it hasn't been unbearable for me - I've only been losing about 2-3 hours per day so I used to get around 30 hours from a charge now I'm at 25-26 hours (I have the Samsung 3000 mAh battery). As far as the shortcut icons, I can't help you. Sorry

Shortcut icons - are you reffering to the 5 at the very bottom? If you want to change the icons at the bottom. you first have to remove one before you can add one. Just hold down and drag it to the trash can. Then go into your apps find what you want then drag it to the bottom :) I hope that is what you were referring to.

yes - that worked with the shortcuts but still nothing for battery drain!!! don't really understand it - or the KNOX either! Anyone else?

@SlappyMcgee--I AM referring to the 5 at the bottom of the lock screen. The problem is that I can't even GET to the plus sign. I can't configure the shortcuts unless I completely remove the security--which I don't want to do. I can't configure the shortcuts until I remove the PIN option and change it to Swipe. When I change it back to PIN--the options for the shortcuts go away as well.

@AnotherGilly - It does look like that option to have the shortcuts has been removed. I've started to notice a delay when my screen is off and I press the home button or unlock button. It takes maybe a full second to respond which is slower than before. My battery consumption is a little more than I'd like to be, but not unbearable.

So i updated my wife's phone last night and the only issue she is having is that all her texts show up in messaging and the stock email app. I can't find any setting to turn it in email. Any thoughts?

Apparently I'm slow.. how in layman's terms do you get to this downloaded list deleted? I thought I did what you said but this unseen downloads are earning me

I just cleared the list of finished downloads in the Downloads application, for both Internet & Other. Stopped the downloading of non-existent pictures right away.
Only really wanted to update to 4.3. for Dashclock! But may take the risk to flash to 4.4 CM 11 Beta 6 just for KitKat!

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

I'm having a serious battery drain issue. When I check the battery usage under settings, I notice that Google+ is the culprit using 30% of my battery. I am not logged into Google+, so what could be causing this issue?

You have to access the application called Downloads in your app drawer (the circular icon w/ the green arrow pointing down thru it). Once opened, it will show 2 options "Internet Downloads" and "Other Downloads". If you have downloaded anything at all on via either method, there should be option to clear the list on the bottom. Clear the list and your issue may be solved.

Others stated to go into your System Settings --> hit More --> Application Manager --> then scroll to the app called Downloads (under the "ALL" apps tab, and this time is a square icon w/ a green arrow thru it) --> tap the icon, then tap clear cache and clear data, if both are able to be tapped.

So has AT&T stopped pushing the update? I thought they started pushing it out a few days ago? I have been checking daily for a while now and it keeps saying my phone is up to date. I am still on 4.1.2....

Its a VERY staged rollout... May take a while..

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Finally was able to download and install. I was running stock 4.1.2 unrooted prior to the 4.3 upgrade. After reading the first couple of pages of this thread, I feel like it's a mixed bag what issues will plague you (and what things are fixed), but I'll throw in my two cents along with what I've done to correct things I've found (so far).
- Large majority of apps force close immediately! Fixed by uninstalling app and reinstalling. Haven't run into one yet that hasn't been corrected by doing this. Even happens to system apps (Google+), so uninstall/reinstall the updates since you can't uninstall the app.
- Camera flash on email notifications and incoming phone calls turned on. Fixed by going into Settings -> My Device -> Accessibility and unchecking the Flash notification checkbox. It was already unchecked, so I tried checking it and then unchecking it and it seems to have cleared whatever dirty bit was hanging around after the update.
- Discovered Swype keyboard no longer had to be set as input method upon reboot. Hallelujah!
- Massive battery drain. No fix on this yet, not sure what the hell is going on but it went from 100% to 60% in a matter of an hour of not very heavy usage, at least not in my opinion. Seemed to taper off between 60% and 40% over the next 3 hours, but under a lot less usage so seems logical, but still way more of a drain than normal. Prior to 4.3, I could run pretty much the whole day before having to plug in. Maybe this is just a one off type event and tomorrow will be better.

I believe so...at least with the AT&T variant. I've heard that it requires an AT&T SIM card...which is why you can't do it via Kies.

There is a file posted on XDA that you can flash for the AT&T GS3. That's how I updated mine and it works fine.

Thank you so much for your reply...And Happy Thanksgiving Everyone

In all honesty I would recommend backing everything up and do a factory reset. 4.3 runs SO much better on a fresh install. I know it can be a big task to do so but what better time than when you are supposed to be spending time with family than reloading dozens of apps to your phone! HA!

On Google+ I have "turned it off" it seems to be just messed up right now unless they have updated it. It was hosing my S3 even before the 4.3 upgrade.

I am a phone geek so you may not want to do the reset. I just used dropbox and my SD card to back everything up. Don't forget your contacts and if you want to back up SMS you can use https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...om.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&token=dmIvYHp7 make sure you save the file externally.

My battery has improved over time after the reset. It's not as good as it used to be but I am sure we'll see an update to 4.3 soon to correct some issues.

Have a great holiday!
