AT&T Galaxy SIII 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

Read this entire thread prior to updating my stock S3 today (guess I was at the end of the push list). Updated, then cleared a few of the common issues ... flash ... download notifications ... wiped cache ... force closed Google+, which was draining battery badly ... then rebooted.

Seems pretty stable, but battery still seems to be draining faster than before (which is significant, because it wasn't good before!) ... time will tell better.

No issues with any apps thus far. Everything seems to be running fine. OS looks similar to my Note 10.1 now, which is nice.

Just went back through this thread and issued the appropriate thanks and likes ... but thanks again to all who took the time to post your experiences.

Update : I did bump into another issue - when i tried to move messages to a folder in the stock email app, it wouldn't show all of my folders in the pop-up. I search here and other places and found a few others who had experienced the same thing, but the only solution i could find was to remove the account from the phone and re-add it again. I can confirm that this works, even though it's a bit inelegant. :-)

Has anyone noticed severe battery drain issues. I updated Monday and now my battery life is only about 3 hours. Total

That's a pretty common report.
Did you perform a Factory Reset?
Did you wipe the cache in Recovery mode?

Disable the Samsung bloatware and the battery life will be 2-3 times better than previous upgrade...

I use a pin to unlock my phone. Since the 4.3 update, I no longer have the innocuous tapping sound when the keypad is touched. It's been replaced with the standard sound you get when touching any icon, the back button, etc. I have had to adjust my speed during unlocking due to lag. Anyone else have this change? Is there a way to change the sound back or even disable it completely (strictly upon unlocking)?
Thanks for any help!

The accessibility option doesn't work!!!! I have it on 'off' (a blank box) and it is still flashing when I get notifications. Somebody help, please!

If you read this thread you will see already mentioned about 4 times that you need to turn it on and back off to correct it..

Good luck!

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

After avoiding the notifications to upgrade for days, I turned the phone on this morning to find that it was being downloaded. I bit the bullet and said, OK, it knows what it's doing. Wrong. Thanks to this forum, many of the problems were solved, but here's a list of what happened with mine for others who might not want to go thru 15 or so pages.
First thing, the lock page changed. Used to have a widget that gave time, date and local temp, which updated hourly. Now, I just get the time. Anyone know how to get the old one back? I checked all the widgets on the phone and there is none there like it. And how would I change the widget on the lock page anyway? I have no PIN or password...phone is not rooted or anything like that.
All the thumbnails on my album art are now gone. I downloaded an app called COVER ART DOWNLOADER and that works for most.
In spite of the fact that I've always NOT synced my GMail contacts, the update added all of my GMail contacts. I was not surprised, as it did that on the last update as well. NOw I have to delete about 2000 entries.
I cannot get rid of the CALENDAR tabs on the right side of the CALENDAR page.
The "EYE" icon on the top far right blinks far more often than before. Don't know if that means anything or not.
Someone on this forum said to delete or deactivate most of the Samsung bloatware, but how do I know which ones are...well, "bloatware" and which ones do I really need?
As far as battery drainage, time will tell, but, right now, on Settings>Battery, it shows 37% for SCREEN and 24% for ANDROID SYSTEM, which, as I remember, seems to be on par with what it was before the update.
I'm sure there are others that I'll run into, but thanks to everyone on here.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

I just got the 4.3 update pushed to my phone today. One thing I really don't like so far is that all the widgets are gone from the lock screen. I liked being able to swipe something on the lock screen and have it fire up after I unlocked the phone. I also liked have txt notifications or missed calls so I could jump right into those after unlocking. Have I missed something that I can adjust to get that functionality back or am I just screwed now?

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

On mine, you can drag widgets onto the lock screen. I have two of them on there. When you click on them, you still must swipe to open. However, I understand you cannot put widgets on the lock screen if you use a PIN or password to open. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong on this.
I also get txt notifications on the lock screen, as well as notifications on missed calls and unanswered emails. Again, I only use swipe to open, so I cannot confirm whether this will work with passwords.
I wish there was a COMPLETE list of all changes (at least to stock apps) somewhere...every day I"m finding something new, most of it good.

If you are referring to sliding the new message icon and it going straight to the message, you can still do that. When you get a text and see it on the lockscreen, tap the box then you will see a empty box below it and you swipe that and it take you right to the message or call

You are right about the pin/pattern lock screen, but you can still have the icons on the swype screen (I have my phone lock set to a couple of minutes after turning off, so in that interval, the swype screen comes up instead when turning on).

To set the swype screen widgets, temporarily turn off your pin/pattern lock. Your can then add your icons.

Not sure if already asked but here goes. Updated to 4.3 in January. Since the update, my phone will occasionally mute my notifications. I'll turn them on (slide to loud on vol bar) and fine for a while. Does it again for no apparent reason. Sometimes while on phone it will do it after I've received a text, sometimes it does it after unplugging. It's a PITA!!! Any help would be appreciated.

I have the same problem with the download message. I have gone to my download app and cleared internet and i still have the issue. Any suggestions?

You cleared both tabs in the Download app - Internet and Other? I haven't heard of anyone that did both who continued to have the problem.

I think I got it. I did the long press on the message and clicked on the app info and cleared the cache. Seems to have worked.

Go to Settings --> Under System click Accessibility --> Click Flash Notification to check box, then click again to un-check the box.

Re: AT&T Galaxy S3 4.3 Update Likes/Issues

I've tried reading as much of this thread as I could and didn't notice this. The only issue I've found so far since updating Friday afternoon is the built in Samsung Calendar app isn't showing my synced Google Calendars anymore. When I press the menu button and select Calendars within the app sometimes they'll show up there but most times they won't. I can go into the Accounts on the phone and sync my Google account and when I go back into the Calendar app they'll show in that list (just not displaying any data on the calendar). When they are in the list and I select 'Display' and choose to show any of them, after hitting 'Save' they are all gone from the Calendar list.

Is this app just broken now? Or is there a fix for this?
