AT&T HTC One X to Nexus 4?

Hey guys,

I'm currently rockin' the AT&T HTC One X running CM 10.1 nightlies 4.2.2. However, I really want a stock Android experience right out of the box that the Nexus 4 has, hence the reason for this thread.

Pros of the One X:
LTE
Since I'm running CM 10.1 nightlies, I basically have stock Android 4.2.2
Already own it lol

Cons:
Slower processor than that's currently available
Less RAM than what's currently available

Pros of Nexus 4:
faster processor and more RAM
Stock Android experience out of the box
Easy to hack
Direct updates
For me personally, on-screen nav buttons

Cons:
No LTE
New one coming out in 6 months anyway?

Basically, the only reason I haven't jumped ship is because the Nexus 4 doesn't have LTE, and there may be a new Nexus (5?) coming out in October (with LTE?) anyway. Also, with the One X, I already have a stock Android 4.2.2 experience with CM 10.1 PLUS LTE. Only drawback to that is the slower processor and lower amount of RAM.

What do you guys think? Should I pull the trigger and buy me a Nexus 4? I'm considering sticking with the One X running CM 10.1, but that Nexus 4 is oh so tempting...

Thanks!

Go for it and get the N4. You could always sell the N4 around the time the N5 comes out and put that money towards it. That's what I do every year, so I only have to spend around $70 to upgrade to the latest Nexus.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking actually! I'll end up selling it around that time anyway. Might lose some money, but it'd be minimal.

I also have an International Galaxy S II that I'm trying to sell at the moment, which would nearly pay for it. Plus the One X, if I decided to sell, combined with the S II, would more than pay for the N4.

How are the data speeds? I'm obviously on AT&T using a 4G LTE data plan, so I'd just throw my SIM in and make some APN changes.

Nexus 4 is gorgeous and impossibly liquid smooth. However, how much data do you use? For me, I do miss LTE, but I also was leaving Verizon regardless, so that argument was moot for me.

There's a new Nexus every fall, so you can get one now or wait forever lol. However, bright side being these Nexus devices are so inexpensive that even if you buy the N4 now, you can always sell it and upgrade to the successor with minimal financial strain.

Go for it. Jump from One X to Nexus 4 will be nice thanks to 2x the RAM. Only downside is the camera is a serious step backwards. N4 camera is terrible.

Thanks for the responses! I'm highly considering making the jump now... I'm not a big camera guy, so that's not too big of a deal for me. How are the speakers on the N4?

I just made the exact same switch last week and I couldn't be happier. The One X is a good phone, but there's something about the Nexus 4, between the black body and stock Android, that gives it way more class than the One X. If you're like me, and really like Apple hardware but want a more innovative and useful OS, the Nexus 4 is perfect. My wife also has a One X and just after a few days with the Nexus 4, I cringe when I see Sense in action.

I wasn't getting great HSPA speeds initially, so I ended up calling AT&T and having them switch me over to a non-LTE plan. Of course, if you don't change your APN settings, you won't get data after that, and AT&T will tell you to pound sand since they "don't support that phone." 5 minutes of googling and checking the forums and I found the proper APN setting. Data isn't blazing (getting 5-7 mbps up/1.5ish down inside my house), but it's not really noticeably slower than LTE (in DC, at least) for web browsing...App downloads are a bit slower, but I usually save that kind of stuff for when I'm on wifi.

Now my only problem is unrooting my phone and reverting it to stock so I can sell it back to Best Buy. Not having a lot of luck with it so far, but I'll play with it tonight and see if I can get it sorted out.

Decisions, decisions! Haha. The only reason I'm sticking with my One X at the moment is because it's rooted, unlocked, and running CM 10.1 nightlies. So basically, it's like a Nexus 4 with LTE, but with a slower processor and less RAM. Still though, there's just something about the N4 I can't ignore...

I was reading some N4 forums on XDA, and I believe there's a toolkit that can solve your unrooting and relocking problems.

Is there a problem with your current phone? If not, can you afford $350 to get a different phone just for the sake of it? If the answer to either question is yes than order the nexus.

No :( I just really want it! I like the stock Android experience, and CM 10.1 on the One X is close that experience, but currently lacks smoothness (no knock on the developers, it's in nightly form as of now). Also, Android 4.2.2 was "made" for the Nexus 4, so naturally, it'll perform better on a Nexus 4.

The camera isn't amazing and has very little features but I wouldn't say its terrible. I switched from the GS3 to the Nexus 4 and my girlfriend has the One X, its definitely a noticeable change in camera quality but the overall experience makes up for it. This is the best Android phone I've ever had and while going toward a phone with LTE or a better camera is appealing I always find myself not wanting to go back to Touch wiz or Sense or deal with a carrier locked device.

I'd give it a try.

I might have to! Like I said in an earlier post, the only thing holding me back is that I already basically have a stock Android experience with CM 10.1 plus LTE with the One X on AT&T. However, since Android 4.2.2 isn't optimized, so to speak, for the One X, I know it'll be much faster and smoother on the N4, especially with the quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM.

One of the developers of CM 10.1 for the One X did state that they're working on the 3.4 kernel that the N4 uses, so basically my One X would be an N4 on the inside, but a One X on the outside... This is what makes my decision so hard.

I may just say to hell with it and give it a try at least, once I get all these N10 credit card/contesting charges/sending in for repair for a third time/B.S. dealt with...

T-Mobile stores should have some in stock, shouldn't they? Go play with one for a few minutes and compare the two phones side by side.

Good call! I'll try and see if I can swing by one today. Anybody else know if they'd have them on display?

I've decided... I'm buying today! 16 GB obviously lol.

I'm also getting the Acase Superleggera Pro dual layer case for it, as well as some screen protectors.

Can't wait for it to arrive!

Nice. BTW, I ordered mine on the evening of the 19th, the Play store said "ships by March 29" but it shipped on the 21st and it was on my doorstep the evening of the 22nd. I went with the bumper + screen protectors over a more traditional case...I'm actually very pleased with it, as it doesn't look like a case, it looks like it's part of the phone.

Really?! Dang, hopefully mine will come sooner too!

Yeah that looks nice too. I'm more of a traditional case guy, so I had to go with a bit more protection. Don't want this dang thing to crack the second I get it lol.

EDIT: Just ordered NOW! Lol I feel like a little kid on Christmas...

This is crazy! I ordered yesterday, the 26th, and it's already set to arrive tomorrow afternoon, the 28th! So much for that "ships by March 29th" message... Lol.

I've been using a case but like the look and feel of the back of the phone and am considering getting the bumper. If you don't mind, I'd like to ask a few questions. How much thicker and wider does the bumper make the phone? Does it touch the tapered front face edge, interfering with swiping from the edge (as some cases, especially TPU ones, do)?
