I am using a g900-a on cricket network and it says there is no update available for some reason. Which is weird because I'm on At&t towers. Do I just have to wait longer or something. I want to install the 5.1.1 update/

You need to be connected and registered on the AT&T network to OTA update the G900A model. See #1.6 of 41 Galaxy S5 models - Dummies Guide. The Cricket model, G900AZ, has yet to receive Android 5.1.1 which you will not receive on your phone.
