I'm gathering my info before Rooting ...

I currently have a Stock Samsung SM-N900A, Version 4.3, Kernel Version 3.4.0-1625098, R0301-01#1 dated Feb 10 2014, Build N900AUCUBNB4.

Out of Warranty so don't expect to take it back and need to worry about being rooted.

Seems one (easiest) recommendation is to use TowelRoot. Should I use TowelRoot at this stage or work on updating my 4.X to a higher version first. I'd like to update to the latest 4.X recommended version and plan to stay there for good. I believe I can get the updated ROMs (if desired) from Sammy and use ODIN to update? Correction: Sammy only has an updated ROM to 4.3 ... So, does TowelRoot work on version 4.3?

More than anything I'm trying to avoid LolliPop ... I've pretty much decided to stay with Note 3 versus moving up to Note 4 or Note 5 so looking for a way to better refresh what I've got and be happy with it :-)

Thoughts/Recommendations are greatly appreciated :-)

TIA

I don't know if Android 4.4 is "camera glitch-free" enough for the upgrade from 4.3 because I've been seeing a lot of complaints about cam launch failures on 4.4.2
I'm also in love with the SGN3 because of its inbuilt tri-instrument mini weather station and RAM-rich memory of 3GB versus the redlined 1GB of my puny GT-I8262 (nice 4.1.2).
