So I did my AT&T pre-order, and it had conflicting information. It says that the device traded in (for the $1000 credit) cannot be a device on a current installment plan. But it also says that the trade-in can occur within 30 days of activating the phone.

So since I am "trading in" my Note 10 (still on installments) I don't get the $1000 worth of bill credits... but if I also trade in an s8 phone that also qualifies for trade it (not on installments anymore) after I get the device, will they then add the $1000 in bill credits?

I would ask an at&t employee because we all would be speculating. I assume if you get the phone in installments and like you said trade the phone in within 30 days you should get the promo. They may ask for the IMEI with the order though.

Yes I think your view is correct. In my experience be prepared to wait. ATT can take several months to start the credits.

In one post someone attached an image on the terms... it says it can start the the credits in a few billing cycles something like that.

I just went through this and got the $1000 discount for iPhone 7 trade in. They asked which line you are upgrading, but not the device. No IMEI was asked or condition too. The phone I have (iPhone 7) qualifies for the trade in $1k too, so it was a no brainer to me. I get the new device and upgrade the family to a newer iPhone XR, and 11 Pro Max.

Do you know by chance if the iPhone 6s qualified? I have a couple of those laying around.

So just so I understand. I can buy an iPhone 7 off of swappa for 150 bucks and send that to ATT and they will pay for 1000 of the 1300 for the note 20 ultra and i pay 300 for it? This seems almost too good to be true. I could sell my s20 ultra for 800 and end up woth a note 20 ultra and 500 in my pocket? Seems too good to be true. I was holding out for the fold 2. Does anyone think att will do anything like this for the fold?

I just went through this with ATT this morning because I was unsure as well. I finally got a hold of an ATT rep who helped me out. Your line has to be eligible for an upgrade AND the device must have a trade in value greater than $60.

I tried to use an old Moto 6 and z2 force and those phones didn't qualify. However, I was able to use a galaxy s10 I had through the BOGO deal that was offered when it came out.

Yep. You are locked in for 30 months of credits And can’t pay it off early on that line. If you cancel for any reason you have to pay the $1400 or whatever. It is a good deal.

I've been with AT&T when I was with Cingular and they bought them... what's another 30 more months lol.

You can pay the $5 next up to upgrade after you have paid half of the phone (through credits in this case). It's a great deal for those who are thinking of staying with the phone for 2 years. I couldn't do it, don't want to be tied up in case the next Note next year catches my attention. LOL

You can always move on from the phone right? You can sell it. I realize it's locked to ATT but lots of people sell locked phones. Even though swappa doesn't allow it ebay has tons of locked phones for sale. ATT doesn't brick phones they just don't unlock them. So taking my example even one step further, I could buy the iPhone 7 for 150 to use as a trade in, get the note 10 ultra for 300, sell my s20 ultra for 800, sell the note 10 ultra for 1000 and pocket 1350 toward a fold 2. I haven't lost a thing other than having to stay on att for 2 years. I guess ATT gets my business for 2 years and it must be worth it to them. Hmmmm.....

That was the phone everyone had but I never had myself. Before Cingular I was with Nextel and my fav Motorola was the i830 I had in Silver and Bronze. Really loved Nextel and Direct Connect.... the king of messaging before iMessage lol.

Same here. With my old star tac! Haha.

I ended up talking to AT&T as was suggested. She said I need 2 phones...
- The one I am turning in (my note 10+ that is eligible for an upgrade but not yet paid off... I am over halfway) ... this phone does not count as a trade in, because it has to go back due to the terms of the NEXT plan
- A trade in phone from the list (I have an old s8). I trade this phone in on the website (att.com/tradein) and use the promo code (it is listed on the trade in website)

Then I should be good. I have 2 lines I am doing it for, and now my other daughter wants to do it too... so I might buy her a used iPhone just to trade it in.

To clarify... If you do the extra $5 for early trade in, you don't have to keep the phone all 30 months. When you trade it in the credits stop, but so do your payments.
