AT&Ts Next program

If you get a subsidy the cost of the phone is included in your monthly plan. With next you pay the same amount of someone getting a subsidy every month plus the cost of the next program.

It's not necessarily a ripoff.

While its marketed to a much wider demographic, it actually can save money for those that may have decided to buy a new phone outright after a year AND want to keep their old phone.

Under NEXT it's $27 * 20 (months) = $540

Outright from AT&T it's $640

And in this part instance the subsidy would be a non-issue since either way one would still still be paying it.

In its current state, AT&T is getting over on customers but if they allowed customers to pay off the device early instead of pretty much being locked in(contract) to paying the designated monthly installment for the 20 months I believe more people would be more receptive towards this program.

Agreed. T-Mobile let's you pay as much as you want extra at anytime. I did the $0 down for the Note 3 and last payday threw $400 at the cost... Next payday after this one I'll pay the rest off... 3 months total to do it. Then I own it :).

I'm willing to bet that att's NEXT program is going to flop and just fail! Its a total scam IMO. Otherwise I like att thus far.

You can totally pay the device off early, you just can't make partial payments. I plan on doing this as soon as I'm eligible for Next and a device that I want comes out. I'll buy it under Next and pay it off the same day if AT&T lets me.
