As everyone knows, the Atrix Battery does get hot at times. Sometimes it annoys me because the way I hold the phone, the battery heat really bothers my hand. I was wondering if anyone knows of a possible sticky sided sheet (that can be cut) that can keep the heat contained to the battery? Like stick a piece of an adhesieve on the back cover in the inside, so it lessons the heat of the battery getting on your hand when your using it for a long time.

Just something to throw out there, I bet a lot of people would benifit from it.

Yes but since this would insulate the battery the temperature of the battery would go up and probably shorten the life of the battery.

I would have to agree, any prolonged exposed to heat is going to lessen the battery life span and will cause that charge to drain faster. Also heat is any electronics enemy. Just drag your hand on concrete to form thick calluses(spelling) for the next couple of days. Problem solved:)

are you sure its the battery that gets hot? because my phone gets hot too very often but not in the battery area, I opened the cover couple of times just to check which part exactly gets hot and it appears that its the lower part where the SIM card is and four android buttons..... the battery is at normal temperature... not even warm.... I think its actually a processor that gets hot judging from the resent post with Atrix teardown: Motorola Atrix 4G Teardown - Page 2 - iFixit
well.. that at least what is happening with my phone anyway.....

Guys,

A couple of questions?

1) How exactly does the phone get hot? I'll be getting my Atrix and Lapdock in a couple of more weeks. I have two batteries and a separate charger for my TouchPro 2 with SPB Mobile Shell 3.5.5 and it never gets hot. With the two batteries I rarely if ever charge from the phone plug-in. I have so much of my business and personal application set on the handheld it would be difficult to not have it with me and untethered, 24x7.

Do you charge during the day from the plug in?

2) As others have stated, heat is not your friend when it comes to electronics. The devices have come a long way in reliability and durability, but they are still susceptible to long term, consistent heat. As the heat goes up in the battery or device the electrical resistance goes up and over long periods it will cause the circuits to fatigue and fail. That's why you see computers and other electronics with air cooling fins to draw away the heat.

But let us know under what circumstances the battery is getting hot, that would really be helpful.

If the battery itself is getting hot, you could have a defect in your phone. It's more likely that the heat is coming off the processor/radio. Adding an insulation to the back cover would just redirect the heat to where it could be damaging to the phone.

Actually now that you mentioned it, it is from the bottem area where the buttons are and not where the batterys at. I noticed it getting hotter quicker when I had the SPB Shell installed. I went back to motoblur and its not that bad now. Its a shame that it gets hot like that. I mean its not a real make or break deal but when it wants to warm up it will quickly.

Yea insulating the heat source is likely to make the internal temp get higher and stay there longer. I know what you mean though. Sometimes I get mine hot too. I have often wondered if some company will make a case that incorporates some type of thin aluminum heat sink on the back. That sounds like the most beneficial thing for it. Aluminum could dissipate the heat fast enough that the aluminum might not really feel hot to the touch.

It is not bad, mine only gets hot every once in a while, and it isn't burning hot, just enough to make you notice. It o.ly happens when I am making the processor really work. It is nothing compared to how hot my Palm Pre used to get, that was hot enough to burn.

Mine only gets hot if I'm really stressing the CPU. Gaming/live wallpapers are probably a good way of getting your phone nice and hot.

Your poor, warm hand.

Rather than insulating the device and cutting off air flow necessary for cooling the device, just do what I do:

Carry around a little spray bottle full of cold water and give your phone a few squirts once in awhile. Better yet, if you can, fully immerse your Atrix in ice cold water for about 10-15 seconds, followed by a battery pull.
