Audio Static

Whenever I use earphones with my HTC One there is a reasonable amount of static. It's enough so that at lower volume levels, such as watching a TV show, you can feel the static dipping in and out with the voices and it is very distracting whilst trying to watch/listen to something. The same happens when listening to music, although it is not as apparent as the music is usually louder and masks the static.

I got the phone only today and have just noticed this when trying to play videos from various sources. Coming from an iPhone I have never had this problem. There is still static with the iPhone however it is a lot quieter and can only really be picked up on by taking the earphones out of the device and realizing that there was a noise. I have tried disabling beats audio, and while it helped it is still way too prevalent. I have tried three sets of earphones (including the set that come with the device) and all three suffer about as bad as each other. I have also read that better quality earphones may reduce the issue however seeing as these earphones worked fine with an iPhone, I would expect the same or better.

I was wondering if there is a fix or if this is just how the device is. I love the phone and so far this is my only problem, and seeing as about 70% of my time with the phone will involve audio it is quite a nuisance.

Its the beats audio amplifier that does it. Turnnit off and see if you still hear it. Ive noticed it on ever beats audio phone ive had. It sucks when you try to listen to it when at a low volume. I think its a way to activate the noise canceling or juat the amplifier noise.

Turning it off does help, but the volume of the static is still too great. When watching something with gaps between voices I can still hear the static drop then increase again.

If this just how the one is, I'm going to have to return it and get another device, which is something I really hope to not have to do as I love the phone.

I Don't have that issue. So far I have tested with the headphones that came with the phone and my beats audio head phones. Have you tried another set of headphones to rule out that it's not bad headphones? I recommend testing with another set just to make sure.

Where it seems to be most noticeable is where there are cuts in audio, such as someone talking and when they pause, the static drops then instantly increases again. In some cases it feels almost like a faint pop.

I have tried youtube videos, some media that require flash player and google play.

In these two videos I experience the static fading in and out with occasional popping due to gaps in audio:

Video 2

When the following media has loaded there is static but it almost pulsates at the load screen (where nothing is playing). It comes in then out repeatedly until I continue to actual audio.
Flash Media

And when I play a song through google play before the song has loaded the static starts, and can be heard in certain places throughout the song, and continues for a few seconds after the song has paused.

All this is with beats audio disabled. I have also used three pairs of earphones, the pair that came with the device and two others.

I had the same issue the first time I used to the earphones, but the static has never returned since then.

I remember just playing with the earphone jack and fixing it by twisting it around and stuff.

Good luck because they actually sound great.

Hmm... I have no static in these videos...

Sounds like the WiFi or cellular modem creates some interference to the sound amps... You should try exchanging your phone.
Do you have no static? With my previous phone I still get a very small amount of static on these two videos.

I'm going to try a different WiFi connection tomorrow as I did have some problems a while back with occasional cracking on my computer speakers when I was downloading/streaming large amounts of data. If the same happens I'll look at exchanging it. Thanks for the help.
