spritn is advertising the evo as the greatest phone ever. They can't obsolete it just a few weeks after it is released.

Seriously though, the EVO is a pretty weak phone. A bunch of hardware/software issues make it the worst high end smartphone around. I'd take a nexus one or a droid x any day.

I was so sad to take my EVO back...
The EVO is one of the greatest phones on the planet.
It is comparrible to many of the current super phones in that it seems to have afeature or two on it that many of them LACK

Droid X does not have front facing camera
Galaxy S series does not have HDMI or Flash

SO from my viewpoint, EVO is still one of the top phones....
Issues? I had a version 3 phone.. I rooted it, and then unlocked the nand... and was able to slap many custom roms on it. With the FPS fix and low voltage custom ROMS... many of the issues of the phone were fixed right then and there...
It does not have the DLNA or 3x MIC's that the Droid X has, nor does it have the beautiful screen that the Iphone 4 and Galaxy S series has... but it is for sure... a very nice phone..

I would love to get one for my wife, except, I know that she would kill it...and not softly either....she would drop it and it would be in a million pieces...

Actually, ive seen video of the galaxy s phones have flash, you have to turn it on in the settings though, and it doesn't need HDMI out. you have DLNA and Video out through the headphone jack (cheaper cable, runs on older tv's, doesn't take up an HDMI port, still looks great)
Also, I thought the Droid x does have a FFC, maybe not though

I think he means a physical LED flash for taking pic's ... not Adobe Flash support...of course I could be wrong and interpreted your posting incorrectly too... seeing how Froyo has Flash support built in and is coming down the pipe for the Galaxy S line

good point on the DLNA and the video out option (although lo-res) ..the DLNA will work quite nicely with my media server>Sammy tv setup, but I doubt I'll use it much, who knows...

Yeah, well Epic has both forms of flash then. Of course flash in the browser is of the flash lite type, which is equal to the Evo's flash. Sure you'd only get 480p (max) out of the phone, but its also not limited to what you can watch on the tv, like the Evo and DroidX that only show SOME video out. With the Galaxy S video out option, its full video out option.

Guys c'mon. Sprint's back-ordered EVOs wouldn't sit as dead inventory. There are plenty of people that want EVOs but haven't even been able to place an order and they'll still want it even after the Epic is released. They are two very different phones that will appeal to different customer bases.

I think Sprint executives would MUCH prefer to have a 4G phone ready to sell right now than play some game with inventories. I honestly believe the only hold up was testing and the FCC, not some strange plan to wait for EVO to get back in stock.

I could see this for those who want a slab over a slider.

I cant remember who said it but due to other phones that have been ordered for customers that are waiting for them to come in is a good reason I think. What happens when people who have been waiting on a phone to arrive see that a droid that is equal or better arrives in the store and no more wait? They cancel their order and grab the new phone and then sprint is left with dead inventory that most likely will not move well or at all. I want nothing more then to get this phone today but I can be patient for a month or 2 if I have to.

That reason does not make sense to me. Look at the whole Droid Incredible situation; they didn't have any projected to be in stock for a month and a half so verizon let people switch to the Droid X. That could happen but between carriers. Lastly I don't believe that the epic will sell out just because Samsung has talked about how much they want to sell they should be ready to supply those projected numbers.

Time maybe getting closer to launch, phonescoop now has the epic up on the main page.

I find it interesting that in the specs page for the Epic 4g on phonescoop they have what internal memory is left after what is loaded on the phone. How would they know that, could it be they have on in hand?

NYC Galaxy S premier show. They could have taken extensive notes.

I spoke with a sales rep and they said that the epic was suppose to come out some time next week but the rep didn't "know" of the price of the epic

haha no price since what he told you was bs... ya we heard the rumors but it would be late game from them say next Wednesday now. I want to be proven wrong here...

Well, looks like we got an implied July 28th. That's 2 points for next week from Samsung/Sprint Reps, one point for August 11th from a The Shack rep, and quite a few points from random Sprint reps for August 1st. Rumors are definitely flying all around us aren't they?

Since its passed through FCC and after my conversation with a manager at sprint I am guessing first week of august.

I don't think it's going to be the first week of August now since the Advocate has not been chosen yet for the Sprint Corp store at the world headquarters. They usually choose one and then they receive their phone about 3 weeks prior to release.

So after an unfortunate event I was suppose to get a new phone but long story short I'm not getting one until October at the earliest. Does anyone think that by then there will be a new great android phone? Or will the epic still be the top dog for the epic fans?

I don't think there will be an advocate program for the epic personally. If I remember correctly the hero had one but the moment did not just due to the similarities between the devices. The evo had an advocacy program since it was a ground breaking device but I feel that the epic is more a side grade than a game changer.

Hmmm, I guess we will see.
