Lets say hypothetically, I win one of the 10 Epics, what do I do with it if I buy one ahead of time?
1) sell on e-bay
2) sell on craigslist
3) use as a dev phone
4) give to my poor gf who is still using a pre and hating it
5) give to my mom who complains about her blackberry 8330m camera sucking... don't think she'll understand how to use this phone though.
6) raffle it off on here :)

Sorry to jump off-topic. Random thought I just had if they are going to release the phone before the contest ends. Anyways, back on topic: I hope this is true, my gf has her boards exam that day and it lasts 5 1/2 hours. This would give me enough time to get the initial giddyness out of my system while she takes the test and not annoy her with it. :)

Available for direct ship tomorrow and in store purchasing on the 21st. Not to sure if corporate stores will have them tomorrow. I wasn't told that information.

EDIT: My people tell me that the 8/11 direct ship is false, sorry. 21st is still a green light.

Here's Mine (you can tell by the carpeting I am in a conference room if that gives you any hints ;))

Is the front facing camera .03 or 1.3 megapixels...

Any other points of insight that you can share with us?

What I am saying is that MY GO TO SPRINT PEOPLE told me that I can order my store inventory on August 16th and sell on the 21st. MY PEOPLE also told me to that they are expecting Sprint to announce it today. If you can't tell, if MY PEOPLE were able to hand me an Epic to video chat with someone then I'm sure they know what they are talking about.

How do you video chat on it? Fring? Qik? Something completely different?

Its VGA, so less than 1 MP, don't know the actual resolution though. With chatting via video though, this would be better over 3G than the Evo, since the Evo's video produces higher files sizes than then Epic. Hopefully, the quality is still good :/

That would be 0.3 MP.

Depending on how large the sensor is, the low resolution might mean really good low light performance.

Either one of those two, depends on what account the other person has. Fring-fring, no problem. But it looks like the other person is on a computer, so AIM?, Qik? Something else? There are several ways to do it, Fring allows you to do it with multiple accounts, except Skype, cause they suck (not really, just mad about the debacle).

Why doesn't Google Talk work on Android?

I am pleased to see that it doesn't look ginormongus like it did in the PhoneDog review. Helps to have someone without hands the size of the BurgerKing guy for a real comparison.

I laughed so hard.

what's the fastest method to receive the phone? Order online? Store on launch day?

I would recommend the retail store if you want it immediately launch day. Unless they do some sort of pre-ordering on the Sprint site.

Were you using this phone only for a little bit or did you get to use it for the whole day? By all means (when you go back online) give us more insights and pictures!

do you think there will be a high demand for this device? Seems like AT&T and tm aren't having any problems keeping things in stock....then again it's a totally different device....if demands are this high for phones now I can't imagine them being able to keep up demand for the holidays

I saw a Captivate AND a Vibrant commercial yesterday. Sprint and Verizon haven't done anything. Verizon has too many flagship phones so the Fascinate will probably go NOWHERE. The Epic is side by side with the Evo, but there's been absolutely NO marketing or teasers anywhere in magazines or on TV unlike the Evo. In my opinion, I think we're looking at a flagship phone that's always in stock.

x2. I'm interested in more details about the phone as well. Might as well have a good read while I wait for release :)

What's up with the screen? Was it dropped?

possible release dates *subject to change August 11th-September 10th. What we are looking at is a span of 31 possible days for a release starting tomorrow. Our main days are August 11th, which is supposedly a false rumor; August 20th; August 21st; August 27th; September 3rd or 4th; and September 10th. Anyone who has more evidence towards a certain day, feel free to add. (I wish I could start a new thread, but we have too many release date threads already).

Samsung said weeks, so we can most likely take the 11th off the list.

The smudges on the screen are just weird lighting angles. The phone itself was quite nice. Very light compared to the EVO. I was impressed by how think it was, Samsung did a nice job on the build quality. No words can describe the screen quality... simply awesome. The camera quality is better than the EVO's but the front camera is a different story. I didn't seem to have any lighting issues but I'm in a pretty well lit area for photo taking.

One thing I have always despised about Samsung products were there charging ports. Over my years working for Sprint we have had bad issues with nearly every Samsung phone that has a microUSB connection... hopefully this is different but it does seem flimsy :(

I will admit that while the slide out keyboard is best, I find it awkward to use it since I was coming from the EVO. I just prefer using my phone in the vertical position. I'm not a big swype fan and the onscreen keyboard is a tad to small for me.

I believe the Epic is more of a multimedia phone. More for entertainment than for business. Overall, I do think it is Sprint's second best phone but I will stick to my EVO because I use it for business. However, if you like gaming, movies, or taking crisp (non-blurry) photos, the Epic may be your better bet.

I appreciate your brief review. In a forum filled with incoherent blabbering it's nice to have a proper look at the device.

Dang it, I thought that the front camera would be at least decent for vcing.
