Auto or manual brightness?

On my previous phone (DInc), the auto brightness function just didn't work. Went up and down all the time. Now I have this new Rezound and I've noticed the auto brightness doesn't do that. In terms of battery use, is it better to use auto brightness or just pick a reasonable brightness level and stick with it? (assuming it's not really bright)

Thanks!

That's what I use. I leave it on Auto and so far, I haven't needed to change brightness when I go outside to read email, dial a number, or check the battery condition or something. The only time I would un-check the Automatic Brightness would be to manually readjust the brightness to look at a photo outside in the sun.

I use auto brightness as well. It works great.

I too had the Inc and often used auto brightness on it in the beginning, but I don't think I had a similar experience as the poster. I eventually went to manual low brightness to save battery, and put a widget on my home screen for fast changes. There were rare times when I couldn't see the display and just used the widget to brighten it up. Also I did and still do use Tasker, and have it set up to change the brightness when I open certain apps. Like apps that play movies, show pics, or apps that I need to see the screen a little more clearly. On my Rezound I am still using the manual low setting, I know there's no percentage display but I would say 10 - 15%, and only once had issues seeing the phone. That was outside on a brighter day. I guess I'm still in battery save mode after the bad battery life of the Inc.

When I'm indoors I manually set it to around 12% (via an app widget). When I'm going to be out and about (including outside) I put it on auto. I don't have any problem reading the screen outside when on auto.

I use Timeriffic to set my brightness to 20% during night hours and 70% during day hours.
