Here to add my voice to Samsung removing the option to schedule a reboot.
I don’t get why those who think it’s unnecessary (because they have “no problems”) can’t understand why others might need it. There are those of us who really do a LOT of things on their phones throughout the day and a nightly reboot ensures that the device/system is fresh for the next day’s work. I had no idea they removed this feature until my phone started behaving poorly. I have MULTIPLE apps open throughout the day and switch between them constantly. As with ALL computing devices whether they be sitting on a desk, a lap, or in a hand, things begin to get a little weird after a while. THAT is why a simple nightly refresh (i.e., a restart) makes it so that I NEVER have to worry about my device behaving badly at inopportune times. That’s what the “just reboot it when you need to” crowd doesn’t understand. If you’re trying to do something quickly, such as working with a client, it is not only time consuming, but also EMBARRASSING to have to say something like, “Oh, I’m sorry. But, can you wait a couple of minutes for me to restart my phone?”
I just don’t get how some people can think their experience with their device is the exact same for everyone else out in the world. We all use our phones differently and some of us are VERY heavy (sometimes called “power") users. This is yet another case of “how does it affect you in any way for me to have an option that you might not use or even know about?” It’ such an innocuous feature, as well. It’s not like we're asking for some sort of esoteric function that radically alters the base architecture of the operating system itself. We just want to restart our phones…when WE want to.
Oh, sure, go ahead and throw in that automatic restart feature for those that don’t want to deal with it. Oh, yeah. I can’t wait to see people complaining about their phones restarting at inopportune times (or not restarting enough, if Samsung has fudged the function toward the cautious end) and then having to manually log in and wait for their apps to fire up, thus turning what was expected to be a few second interaction into a minute long or more affair. But I digress…
Just bring the feature back, Samsung. I wonder if they had to remove it because it somehow messed with the Auto Optimization feature. I don’t see why it would. But I’m not a programmer. I just wish next time Samsung would listen to its users and beta testers. Fat chance, I’m sure…
