I started over from step 2 and I went thru it again. I am lost on the directions after that point. Can you let me know what the next step is? Oh, my wife is sleeping so I don't know how much a macchiato is but I will definately will be buying you one. I will ask her in the morning or you can PM me.

what directions are you lost on? You flashed the downgrade, then started over from step 2 , you let it do its thing , then you flash the upgrade

So I think that is where I am lost. What step is that in the process so I can select it or do I do something else to flash the upgrade?

If you flashed the pm05img.zip from the phone and it wiped your phone clean once already then you are on step 2....if your phone still has all your data and wasn't wiped then you need to start from the beginning

Thanks for all your help last night thru the PM. Little did I know that I was already rooted but I was thrown off by late night stupidity. All fixed. Actually went thru the first time with no problems.

Donation sent. Hope the coffe will keep you up at night. Thanks again.

Speaking of data, what should be backed up? How should it be backed up?

What about the 32gb drive? Is that safe? Only having for 2 wks not much but a few new apps installed and email configured.

Thanks!

Hey, I just rooted last week and finally today, installed a new ROM (das BAMF 1.6).

Here is my recommendation:

My Backup Pro - use that to back up data like bookmarks, contacts, txt msgs, and also apps

Titanium Backup - will back up everything too, I used it to back up my apps

When I flashed and had my new ROM, I logged into google through the HTC setup and all of a sudden all my apps started downloading anyway (takes about 10 min)...

I guess if you don't log into the HTC thing with your gmail, you'll have to restore apps... otherwise there's nothing wrong with backing things up.

Also, if you flash roms, CWR will back up everything to an image anyway.

Keep getting Update fail

I keep getting an update fail after the first attempt at flashing old PM05IMG.
Please help this is driving me nuts.
Thanks

ok im sorry i read through probably ten pages of information and couldnt find the answer. Im a noob at rooting phones, im sort of lost after i ran the bootloader and let it do its thing/restart. i just dont know at this point what direction i need to go

OK, having an odd issue..

I rooted the phone and everything seems great. I installed Titanium Backup but it said I dont have root and to install Superuser. Superuser apparently is part of the root process on page 1 b/c when I finished the root I was being prompted to "Block" or "Allow" Superuser access... B/c it is already installed, when I attempt to install it from the marketplace I get an unsuccessful... something about "unsigned". I am assuming this is b/c it is already on my phone. But no uninstaller (built in or app uninstaller) can seem to find it so I can uninstall and reinstall... any ideas?? I know I have root, I have tried other apps "Root Explorer" for example and they work just fine. It wouldnt be an issue, but I would like to use Titanium and cannot do to this...

in order to root with security off it needs to down_grade software, then after that you need to upgrade again.

the script does this, it temp roots, then kicks you into bootloader where you flash the downgrade,,,then it temp roots the downgrade, kicks you back into bootloader where you flash the upgrade and then you are rooted permenantly

Okay, as a noob, I may have this wrong, but it looks like the downgrade firmware is 1.12.605.6, That is the firmware that was loaded on my TB when I got it, and still is... Is there a new firmware I should be running?

Can't this auto-root be made a bit easier in this case?

HELP!! I got through the first part of it by downgrading, now when I went to continute, it just keep telling me to hit a key to continue

It just said press continue for awhile. I switched USB ports and then it started working. So maybe it was something with my USB port, but it looks like I'm just about done rooting. Thanks for the easy to follow instructions!

Followed the directions to the T..and I am rooted! Thank you...and screw you Verizon for not getting needed updates to this phone on time. You are the reason I rooted the TB.

Done and done.

This is my first android phone and found it quite easy to get through. Thank you so much.

One question (that may have already been answered, sorry for not sifting through this long thread), can I or should I delete the "PG05IMG.zip" file from my SD card?

I would place it somewhere else on the card, create a folder called "Radio File" or something like that.
I have folder with all 4 radio files in it for safe keeping.
Yes, you should delete it from the root of your SD Card.

Rooted and restoring my apps as we speak...

Thank you thank you thank you!!! I am so glad for this method...I am scared witless about screwing up commands like that and I can 99% guarantee that I'd completely mess something up and be out $250!

You will have something coming your way when I have money :-)
