The Post-OTA method looks pretty much the same as the Pre-OTA with the exception that the custom upgrade ruu is the modified MR1 (1.13.605.7) instead of the modified factory 1.12.605.6.

A few pages back I posted a test version of auto root with that modified ruu

I wonder if anyone has tried it yet, and if it was successful... I would hate to brick or run into issues.. I used to have the Hinc and knew it inside and out... but I am a little more nervous the TBOLT...

I used the MR1 auto root yesterday on a TB that had already done the OTA upgrades... no problems. The only thing I did differently was select the "Stay awake" as well as the USB debugging mode.
Screen never went blank until I pushed the power button for the reboots!

Now to root my wife's phone. :D

FYI: other specs that may have made a difference.

I had already installed HTC Sync and the Android SDK.
I don't know if these are prerequisites for the MR1, but I was getting ready to do the manual version when I happened upon your update.

When I attempt to MR1 my wife's phone, it will be on a different machine that I haven't yet installed these.
Will I need to? Do you want me to attempt it without installing these first?

No you dont need SDK installed... the auto root contains the files needed to create an adb connection.
But you will need to install HTC Sync

FYI

the newest version of auto root has alot of failsafe built in if any of them pop up please let me know , i will be delighted to hear that it stopped something from going wrong..

it actually does a checksum on the files written to the phone to make sure they are there and allow you to get to the point that the phone reboots to flash. If the files have not been written correctly for whatever reason it will give you an error with instructions

i rooted mine with the new autoroot method after having done the ota update
everything went fine it took maybe half an or hour or so
the next day after i started removing all the extra crap on my phone
i did loose me 4g connection and was never able to get it back
but i had a good connection up until i strated removing apps
i ended up installing dasbamf remix 1.6 and now everything is fine again

I will pass on the OTA Update to many issues come along with the update. I never had problem with my phone before so I would like to keep that way. I just finally got my phone Root for second time completely after having a horror story of user error on flashing a new rom. However all is good. Thanks to DroidXcon!

I just want CM7 now as well 4G in my city and all will be forgiven!

Well, I just finished rooting my wife's Thunderbolt using MR1. The phone had also undergone the OTA updates earlier this week. I am working on my laptop at home and only installed the HTC Sync for TB and the MR1 package. Once again, I *did* enable the stay awake under the USB debugging and didn't have the unit go to sleep during the process.

Thanks again DroidXcon.... I think a Macchiato (traditional or that caramel one that starbucks makes?) will be coming your way ;)

Can I root the phone using MR1 if my phone has not had the OTA update? It's still stock since Day 1. First time rooter and Android user. Thx!
