Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

when can we see the new update?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I downloaded the update from Verizon tonight (7/9) intended to reduce or eliminate the number of reboots the phone was having (which mine was having MANY!), and now my phone is unrooted again. I had previously rooted my Thunderbolt following the steps in this post - if I root it again that way, will it wipe out the update I downloaded tonight? I'm hesitant to do that as my phone was still suffering many reboots, even after I had rooted it (I did not, however, install anything else on it, such as a custom ROM).

I do want to root again - do I need to wait for the root to be updated, or can I just re-root following the directions in this post? I believe the radio was updated to MR2, maybe? Will I lose that if I root right now?

Thanks!

Dennis

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I thought with s-off that it was a permanent root, unless the new update somehow turn s-on I don't see how it could unroot you. Most I thought would happen would be that you can't root from scratch until it's figured out for the new update.

I would wait to reroot if it did indeed unroot you. You never know what nasty things verizon added to stop rooting.

It may not be illegal to root, but it's also not illegal for them to make it easy to brick your phone while trying to do it.

Yes I as well want to know if I can use this method after the newest OTA released on 7/8/11......

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

ok several times i have started from adb option 2 to start after downgrade. what am i doing wrong?
i have the htc drivers, i am in debbuging mode, i have already completed the downgrade but everytime it tells me to pull my battery i unplug re-enter the battery, plug it in and turn it on. i then restart the start_root and press option 2 then the cycle just repeats? any thought?

trying yet again when i hit enter after option 2 i see it tell me removing old and installing new pg051mg.zip then it says pushing ruu then just sends me back to disconnect and pull battery now exiting press any key to continue.

If this happens, and it did to me, press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your PC, start Task Manager, go to Processes, look for any entries with HTC in them, and end those processes (I only had 1 process with HTC in the name that was running). Once you do that, the process should complete without any further issues - it worked for me!

The OTA update must have somehow re-enabled S-on, because my phone was set to S-off prior to downloading the update. Or, maybe it's the way I installed it; the process would not complete (probably due to being rooted), so I had to download the update to my PC, place it on my SD card, rename it PG051MG.zip, and then install it through hboot. The update seems to have really helped with the random reboots (my Thunderbolt hasn't rebooted once, that I'm aware of, since I updated Friday night), but I really wanted my phone rooted again (mainly, just so I could use Font Changer to change my fonts and use Titanium Backup to get rid of some bloatware), so I re-rooted following the instructions in this post, then went here:

[ROM] Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA Deodexed Rooted Busybox Mirrors Added :D - xda-developers

and downloaded the new radio and the ROM listed here (which is just the stock set-up included in Friday's OTA update, but rooted, deodexed and includes busybox). I flashed the radio through hboot, and the ROM through ROM Manager. Now, I have the same set-up that you get with Friday's OTA update, but I'm still rooted!

Root your phone following the directions in the 1st post of this thread, then go here:

[ROM] Official 1.70.605.0 MR2 OTA Deodexed Rooted Busybox Mirrors Added :D - xda-developers

and download the radio and ROM listed and install them. Place them both on your phone's SD card, rename the radio to PG501MG.zip, flash it through hboot (turn the phone off, then power it up by holding in the power & volume down buttons until the hboot screen appears), and then, when the phone finishes rebooting after installing the radio, install the ROM from your SD card by using ROM Manager (from the Market; it's free). You'll also need ClockworkMod Recovery (also free on the market); if you don't have it installed, ROM Manager will prompt you to download & install it. After you follow these instructions, you'll have the same exact set-up you'd have by downloading Friday's OTA update, but you'll be rooted!

Dennis

P.S. - Please note that if you install the new radio I'm directing you to install in this post, you'll HAVE TO install the ROM I'm referencing (or, some other ROM that it works with), otherwise you'll have no signal and won't be able to make or receive calls, as this radio isn't compatible with the ROM you'll end-up with in this thread here!

You should also try restarting your computer if you run into this issue. This same thing also happened to me the 1st time I rooted my Thunderbolt following these instructions. After an hour or so of frustration, I finally, out of desperation, rebooted my PC and re-ran the root, starting at option 2, and that time it proceeded.

The previous post where I said to start Task Manager and end any HTC processes was because I kept getting a checksum error.

Figured it out. Close out the htc sync on your computer. Works perfectly then

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I need some help guys... I saw that a couple people have still been able to root after this last OTA. But every time that I try, I get through the very first part where it pushes the files, but when it finishes that, it stops and shows me my serial number, like it's supposed to, and then I continue and I get this.

and i've resarted and switched ports, but it still won't work. I'm wondering if it has something to do with my phone still being s-on? i'm not sure though.

When this happens, press CTRL+ALT+DEL on your PC, start Task Manager, then kill any process running with HTC in the name. This happened to me and when I killed the only process running with HTC in the name, the auto-root continued without a hitch.

If you root this way, I belive that you'll lose the update that came out Friday. There is a way to have the update on your phone and still be rooted; I detailed it several posts back. You have to root following the directions here first, though.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

if the checksums do not match, the auto root will not continue bc if you flash an incomplete radio file you could brick your phone.

i think you need to download the files again and start over from the beginning.

Thanks Zero...common sense (not always my strongest suit) :p I have been away on work but will try it from the top today. Should I open HTC sync when I start the process or just leave it be? From what I've seen it looks like I just need HTC sync installed before running auto_root and just leave the Sync alone while running the root program.

Anyway I will check it out in a bit.

Thanks!

Is there going to be an update to this with the latest OTA update?

It worked! I had read that suggestion earlier but I thought that that was only for being later on in the process, I really appreciate you being so helpful and on top of things around here. Thank You Dennis!!

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Just used the Auto Root on my Thunderbolt last night. Really easy and worked well. I then flashed the BAMF 2.1 GingeRemix and it worked perfectly. I thought I would run into many more problems but I really haven't seen any except for a tiny hiccup in the Market but that was easily worked around.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

How long does this auto root process take? I'm debating on going to bed and doing it tomorrow or just staying up tonight.

As long as everything goes smooth.. I'd say about 20-30 minutes.
