Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

1} Try booting your PC, (youd be amazed at how often this fixes problems)
2} Try a different USB Port preferably on the back of PC If not using laptop.
3} Verify USB drivers are installed by setting phone to disk drive and see if you can browse your files on the phone by using windows explorer.

Tried all of these...but still won't recognize my phone. Very aggravating! The driver seems to be installed correctly, reason I say this is that I can start up the HTC Sync software and it recognizes my phone immediately. I tried no less than 3 USB ports and uninstalled and reinstalled the driver software multiple times along with multiple PC reboots. Nothing. :(

The only thing I haven't done is tried a different cable, I actually tried this on 3 different PC's two running XP and on running windows 7. All stopped at the same point (5 keystrokes in :) ) I haven't heard of anyone successfully rooting their phone with the auto root method after the July 8th update. Has anyone?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Not sure if this is the correct place to put this, but I'm having an issue with rooting my device. I am using the auto-root method by the way.

I just keep getting this message:

misc.img downgrade checksum error
Please disconnect and pull the battery
Then start the application again
application will now exit so you can start over

Any ideas?

Try downloading the files again. if the md5 sum does not match exactly the auto root script will stop, bc flashing corrupted files can damage your device.

just dl them again, maybe try a different web browser, and restart the auto root.

I used a different USB cable as well. The one that comes with the TB keeps losing connection. I also kept the USB plugged in during this root. This was all after the update.

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I finally got it to work...and I think I know where I was messing up. When I went to run the autoroot program the first hundred times I didn't see it or it didn't pop-up to extract the files to my PC. So I assume the program was trying to use files that should have been extracted to my C:/ drive but they were all still located in a folder on my desktop! All the frustration for something so simple...grrrrrrr Other than that the autoroot process worked like a champ!

Awesome, Congrats on your rooted phone!

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Ok, so I was successful rooting my TB using the Auto Root steps here. I enter my brothers Gmail account and not mine. I could not switch it over to my Gmail account. I had to do a Factory Reset. Now my TB is not Rooted anymore. Do I have to go through ALL the steps again? OR can I start from step 3 of the Auto Root.

Thanks

A factory reset shouldn't have unrooted your phone. If superuser isn't in your app drawer, try downloading/installing it from the market.

I downloaded Titanium Backup after the factory reset and it said I didn't have Root access anymore. Will try to download Superuser.

Thanks

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I currently have MR2 installed and am unrooted. if I use this rooting method will I be prompted with the MR2 OTA again or should I wait for a Auto root MR2 to become available?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

I started the autoroot, but my cat tried to jump on my computer, knocked it over, and then apparently my CPU heatsink and fan came loose and my computer shut itself down during the autoroot.

It happened during the first part where it pushes the files to my thunderbolt. Do I need to go to my SD card and delete the files and start it over, or can I simply start it from the beginning again?

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Will this tool work if I am on MR2 instead of MR1? I have tried downgrading but that did not work. Any suggestions on what to do?

Thank you in advance, Eric

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

Succesfully rooted after reading here and following the simple directions... about 20-30 mins :D Zero Hiccups...
Denied the latest update and jumped on the root before it was forced on me...
You tube video assured me that it was cake....

Now what do I do...? heheh first android phone, thrilled with the Thunderbolt coming off I Pahone
Hope cyanogen comes across soon for this bad boy... ;)

Should I wait or choose a different rom....

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

"Help needed"

Started from the begining and after the first step (Pushing fills) it goes to the next step and asks to press any key to continue. Which I've done but nothing happens at this point...

I can see the device and serial # at this point, its just not doing anything after I hit any key...

Re: [Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 updat

OK, First time rooting a phone. Was able to get it done with no problems at all. The question I have is at the end it tells you to delete a zip file from your SD card. I can't remember what file I was supposed to delete???? Can someone please remind me what that file was?? THANKS
