so you got through the entire process?
is the phone actually rooted and S is still on ?
when did you purchase the phone?

Sorry if i cant get to everyones questions fast enough im at work and i have to sneek away.
Those in the know of how this stuff works please feel free to help out and answer questions, i would greatly appreciate it.

I dont know too much about troubleshooting this kind of stuff, but if it happened to me i would probably try to root and s-off again and see if it works the second time.

Yea went through everything and it was still S-ON. I had Superuser installed and was trying to do a Clockwork backup when I noticed it was like that. I've decided to re-root. Ill let you know if that fixes it.

I bought the phone on launch day.

Hey guys. I'm completely new to all this stuff so Idk much. Will I be able to permroot my Mytouch 4G with this?? Then ill be able to install custom ROM?

So, I'm going to attempt this..

Do I still need to follow the directions from the manual root, in regards to that PG05IMG_downgrade.zip file? It's a bit confusing, because I don't see that listed in the directions in this thread, but have seen it mentioned in comments..

this process actually writes and renames those files for you , if you see the program hang for several minutes chances are that is what it is doing, writing the files to your sd card.

I downloaded the program from all sources and it says that it is not a valit rar file with winzip evaluation. Giving up now.

With winrar i get the archive is either in unknown format or damaged and I also get No Archives found. This just sucks

If I just rooted and created a nandroid backup and a Titanium back up what would the next steps be in get DAS BAMF v1.5 remix with the new ruu radio update.

Download both
put on SD Card by using "device as disk drive" does it matter what folder I put them in?
Flash radio update first ( do I delete the file after update)
Flash Rom (do I delete file after update)

Thanks in advance!

BTW Thanks for all the help I am rooted and ready to roll, and might I add, SO PUMPED! haha

[warn]The method of rooting your Android device as described in the article herein is solely for enthusiasts and not for the faint of heart.

IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA. IT WILL WIPE YOUR DATA.

Android Police, Android Central, Team AndIRC and myself disclaim all liability for any harm that may befall your device, including, but not limited to: bricked phones, voided manufacturer warranties, exploding batteries, etc.

Download times maybe rather long, root includes OS downgrade and upgrade images.
I have created this to make the process easier but as a user you should know and understand the use of adb.
If for some reason the process should fail there may be need to manually troubleshoot and proceed using adb commands
under the tips area of this thread i will supply references to familiarize yourself with adb[/warn]

[info]USB driver download (All are the same):
Tip: For best results use USB ports in the back of the computer. [/info]

Auto Root
  • Download Auto root
  • Unzip to anywhere on computer
  • Activate debugging mode and stay awake (below USB debugging)
  • Set the phone to Charge only
  • Open TB_Auto_root Folder
  • Double click Start unroot
  • Follow prompted directions carefully

Auto root:

[tip]
Remember the following:
  • HTC sync installed
  • Use USB ports in the back of the computer(adb only officially supports the first primary USB port -- these are all in the back of the computer, and slower/older computers often have problems using a different one)
  • Activate debugging mode and stay awake (below USB debugging)
  • Phone in charge only mode
  • When the process looks like its hanging its actually writing the file to your sd card so be patient
  • READ the directions carefully.
  • After root is done restart the phone.

Familiarize yourself with ADB

[warn]When using automated methods carefully read all instruction provided by prompt before proceeding. This method will unroot you and return you to stock with S-on. Neither Android Central or I are responsible for anything that you do to your phone.[/warn]

Auto Unroot
  • Download Auto unroot
  • Unzip to anywhere on computer
  • Activate debugging mode and stay awake (below USB debugging)
  • Set the phone to Charge only

If I missed anyone in the credits, it was unintentional and I will fix it as soon as Jcase lets me know who else should be added. Lots of people had their hands in on this project.

Modeled and adapted after the original method here.

I downloaded both the "Auto Root" and "Auto Unroot" files. The "Unroot" file is a zipped file that I was able to extract files from but the "Root" file is a ".rar" file that will not allow me to open it or extract files from, on my Windows 7 computer. Do I have the correct "Root" file?

I went through the whole process and the only thing that went wrong was during the last step after ADB shut down it errored when it tried to restart and the phone didnt do a restart. It has the SU installed but doesnt show to be working. (ROM Manager shows no superuser in effect). Tried re-running from step 3 and got [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY_EXISTS] then error:devicenot found 3 times

Problem with Rooting Thunderbolt

"I'm starting from the beginning. I guess my computer won't recognize my phone. The msg I am getting is adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file

I downloaded the HTC Sync drivers and can connect to it on my PC.

Phone is fully charged, debug mode, stay awake, charge only. Using the USB on the back of my PC.

Running Windows Vista.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I tried the manual root last week. I set up ADB using the video on youtube and it recognized it then. I was having trouble downloading all the files so decided to wait for a more automated process, but like I said, it won't recognize my phone now".

I too am frustrated by this problem and wanted to know if anyone could post how this was resolved? I have rooted both my Eris and Fascinate and did not encounter this problem. My Thunderbolt is having one heck of a time being recognized when I plug it in. FYI, I have used all of the ports on my Dell Studio laptop, and I have not been successful. Thanks in advance for the assistance.

I just went through this process, A-Z. Not a single issue at all.
Read all the steps 2-3 times and did exactly as it said each time.

Rooted, bloat free, setCPU and screaming.

Thank you!!!!

It rooted perfectly the first time, however, now my pics for my contacts when I receive a call is blurry. Any ideas? Thanks, in advance.
