[Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 update

completed the auto root steps successfully, it shows S-OFF but i can NOT install any apps that requiring rooting. i have gone thru this process 2 times. anyone else run into the same problem?

i tried restarting the phone a few times to see if it would help but still no dice. any help would be aprreciated. i have the launch day thunderbolt.

download titanium backup, hit the "problems" button , then hit get busybox update
after its done reboot and try again

so I tried to flash a new radio in one of the other threads and now my phone isn't rooted. At least thats what all the root apps are saying. Hboot still says s-off. Can I just start the autoroot program again from step 1?

I can't remember exactly where I was in the process, I know it took me into boot loader, then rebooted after a while, had me go through set up wiz, then did that again, then I seen it pushing super user, and I remember it telling me that my phone may actually turn off when it was supposed to restart ( mine restarted fine ) but then the command prompt just went away, no comfirmation that I was done. I have super user on the t-bolt and will try to add my Gmail and download some root access apps and see if I have root access.

How do I tell if I have completed this process?

Downloaded TiBackup+Pro Key and d/l busy box and I do indeed have root access, but do I still need to go back and restart the auto root at option 2 or 3 ?

You will have superuser in your app drawer, then you can test it with an app that requires superuser permissions, like rom manager, or shoot me, or titanium backup. Download one of those apps and test it out.

Since I seemingly lost root, I tried the auto root from the beginning but this time after the first install/reboot and plugging the phone back in it said it could not find the PM05IMG.Zip. I assumed it just installed that so now I am even more confused.

alright, so i ended up trying a different method that didnt work, then giving up i decided i would just use the UNROOT download you supplied, went thru that
then i started all over again. kinda lost track of time, took some shrooms and went out for a smoke and when i came back in it was ROOTED but this time i was able to install SHOOT ME and ANIM MOD which both require ROOT and it worked. SUCCESS!!!! downloaded wireless tether from the market and that worked perfect also. thanks for all your hard work guys. you're awesome. on friday i get paid from work and i'll def throw you some paypal bucks.


oh, did i mention when i came back in the shrooms started kicking in and seeing my Thunderbolt rooted just set me off on a great trip. HAPPY 420!
