[Auto] Root and Unroot (Windows)**Updated**5/20** w/MR1 update

Status
Not open for further replies.

[WARN]This is a Test version of AutoUnroot. It has fail safes and will display when an error has occured. This will not let you get to bootloader unless everything has been successfully. in case of error you have to PULL THE BATTERY and try again. Pulling the battery clears the phone so you can start again clean. please let me know of any problems.

Again if you are getting Error notifications thats what it is designed to do. Its just a beefed up version of the original[/WARN]

till what is fixed?

If you are refering to the post about just getting the white screen that is not an Auto unroot issue thats a connection issue. There is nothing to fix on my end. I have a newer version of Unroot that has failsafes incase of poor connections but i have been the only one testing it but ill post it here

I'm sayn' if people are having Google connection errors and the such... I'd rather not deal with all that. Just my 2 cents.

That has nothing to do with root or unroot . That member switched accounts and it worked that's a google problem.

We are discussing device connection problems which again had nothing to do with root or unroot thats between the device and the windows machine

Tried it on all 3 ports on my laptop, it does the same thing each time.

Just tried it on the ports on the back of my desktop, and it's doing the same thing.

I'll try this new one and report back.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, I get balloon notifications from the icon tray in windows during the file transfer that say it loses connection. Not sure if that helps you in any way..

Ill screen share with you later tonight if needed.

Make sure you are in debugging mode and are selecting charge only....if you are not in charge only the file will not write to your sdcard

Unrooted and returned to stock last night from das BAMF 1.6.2 to see if that might solve the eHRPD issue or lack there of. That didn't help so I decided to give the auto-root in the OP a go and it worked flawlessly. +1 for DXc

Howdy ya'll.

Ok, I am a total n00b.

Know absolutely nothing about Android and rooting. but came here to learn.

That said, I have an HTC Thunderbolt and a burning desire to purge it of stuff I don't really want - but ability to put back if need to.

Is there a link for the Auto Root? I am unable to locate it.

Thanks for the help!

Yes.
You're on page 65 of this thread. Go to page 1. It's all there. It's been updated and fine tuned as time has gone on.

DroidXcon has done an absolutely fabulous job of making this simple stupid easy.
I know...I qualify. And I've done it twice. (Like I said, I qualify...)

Read it a few times, keep this page handy...and before you press or hit anything, read it again. Step by step, it takes about 45 minutes tops.

Then you have a few choices. You can purchase Root Explorer, move the apk files to a different folder on your SD card...or you can get into custom roms and kernals.

My advice, root and debloat first. See how you like it. ROM and Kernal is the next step.

Thanks!

Well, all I see are HTC sync and USB drivers. Nothing else unless it is hidden in plain sight. :)

did you see the big spinning bright yellow thing that says DOWNLOAD? if you dont maybe try a different web browser or restart your computer maybe something isnt allowing gif's to display.

Ok, that was it. Seems that our IT is blocking certain things - like mega load sites.

I will have to try this later. Now I bought this phone this time last week. Hopefully, all will go well this evening.

Thanks!

Hell...if you're in LTE...download it to your phone's SD card and transfer it to your computer when you get home.

I find myself, having slow T1 lines at work, doing more and more of that...lol.

I went through the entire process and everything appeared to work fine. But I do not see Super User in my app drawer. I downloaded one off the market thinking that would fix it but it says I am not rooted when I select it.

"Superuser was not found at /system/bin/su or system/xbin/su is the message I get when I open Rom Manager

idk im a total android noob here but i tried it a couple times and it never made it past flashing the RUU to my TB help please ? another thing i know the first post mentions that this will wipe all my data, is there any way i can backup my data like my contacts n then restore them once i rooted my fone ? thanks in advance

I was at this point when my sonturned my computer off.Unplug the USB cable from your computer. (if you don't, that's okay,
you'll just see Windows pop up some errors as you continue below.)
Bootloader should be highlighted in blue - Press the power to execute. The screen will change and Fastboot will be selected. Around 10 seconds later
it will then proceed to the next step.
You should see several files loaded and checked.Don't freak at the warnings.
The screen will eventually clear and you will see "checking pd05img.zip."
Eventually, you will be asked: Do you want to start update?
Press the volume up button to say yes.
Once you do, you will see a progress bar in the upper right corner
and a bunch of stuff going on in the middle.Be Patient and let it do its thing.
Press power to reboot.
It might actually power down (vs. reboot) at this step.
If your screen goes back for more than 30-seconds, try powering back on.
Once Sense is booted up, unlock your screen to enter the setup wizard.
Hit Next - Skip - Skip Setup - Next - Next - Next - Finish
Then hit the menu capacitive button -
settings - applications - development - check USB debugging - then click Ok
Plug the Thunderbolt into your computer.
Swipe down on notification panel.
Make sure its in "Charge Only" mode, if not select it and hit done
If all above conditions

Where do I start from?
