Had my Nexus7 a few months now and it has always auto-rotated. Yesterday it suddenly stopped and I have to open an app to force it to rotate. Auto-rotation is still checked. I haven't changed anything else. Any ideas?

Do you have "Permissions Manager" installed? My N7 stopped auto-rotating when I inadvertently changed a permission to disallow HD Widgets to alter my system settings.

I was somewhat impatient and did a factory reset, making sure I did not restore any settings or anything from a backup - it still doesn't auto rotate :( do you reckon it is faulty?

I'm no expert, but if it's refusing to rotate after a factory reset, then that sounds defective to me.

Thanks. I managed to find another forum on Google where I found that this is a known bug from the latest upgrade. Different solutions for different people, but I fixed mine by running battery completely down then recharging :-)

Have the same issue on my Google nexus 7 32gb 1st gen with android 4.3 - lost auto-rotate. tried resetting in accessibility, soft and hard resets etc. nothing worked. Got the "set orientation" app from Google play and it works great... Doesn't fix whatever is messed up with the gyro, but lets me switch seamlessly from portrait to landscape. Even forces some apps that don't normally work in landscape to do so.
