Auto sync and push mail

Hey guys sorry if someone already asked this, I did a brief search and did not find the answer I want. I fiddled with my HTC M8 for a couple of days and still cannot figure this out.

My emails are not getting pushed - the stock mail app will only get new emails when I open it and refresh, while the yahoo/outlook app SOMETIMES give me a notification about 7-8 minutes after an email was sent. (Compared to my old iphone stock email app which received notifications IMMEDIATELY) There is no PUSH option in the mail settings, only SMART SYNC, which is the one I chose for all my accounts.

Is this because my Auto sync is OFF in the settings? Will it also sync everything else like contacts/calendar? For example, if I turn it on, will it sync my Facebook calendar and contacts to my phone? The reason is that I want a clean system and not a system filled with information I don't need.

So the bottom line is, I want my emails to be pushed immediately to my device, and I prefer to use the stock mail or the gmail/yahoo/outlook app rather than those others like cloud magic or K9. Any suggestions on what I should do? Thank you in advance for any input.

So to clarify a bit.
Stock email app will NOT push, UNLESS your using exchange email. Exchange will push with stock. (someone else chime in if im wrong)
Yahoo email app, gmail email app all push. It might also help us to know if this is a work email using exchange, or yahoo, or gmail, or hotmail?
Autosync does need to be on as well. If its off then the app will only update when you manually tell it to.

To also address your comparison to iPhone email.. iPhone runs it like blackberry did. Your iPhone email app relied on apple servers to retrieve the emails then push them to your phone. All of that is handled on the servers at Apple. Keep in mind too that gmail no longer is pushed to iPhones. Apple stopped supporting IMAP service on iPhones sometime early 2013.

One other thing i have noticed is when im connected to cellular connection (T-Mobile) i seem to always have quick reliable email deliveries. But at times when im on WiFi i notice delayed deliveries. THis happens on my home and work WiFi.
Ive noticed this on M7 as well. So it might just be an HTC thing.
