A post on droid-life reveals that an automatic method to deodex your system files has appeared in the wild. For those unaware, before you can do any sort of themeing on the x, you must first deodex your system files, or it wont work. Here is the link so you all can check it out: 928DROID Releases Easy Deodox/Odex Method for DROIDX - Droid Life: A Droid Community Blog

Btw, I have not attempted this yet (I manually deodexed my system), so I have no clue how well it works. Have a backup just in case, as usual

I just Deodexed using this method. It was VERY easy, considering Im still a newb. Only thing I didnt realize that Im installing a theme as well, which is fine by me because this particular theme looks pretty good.

BTW, that zip file took forever to download, but after I put it on my sdcard the whole process took under 10mins.

considering the manual method took me about an hour, i would say thats a big improvement!

btw, that theme is apparently very easy to strip out or overwrite, according to the site, but hey, if you like it, rock it!

Yea the theme is nice, Imma mess with it for a few and most likley gonna move on to bigger and better themes ;)

the 928 theme looks great with red widget !!! Have a red scroll bar also....

Could someone point me in the direction of some other themes please. Do I install them the same way I did this one?

If you go to 928Droid's site there are options for OTA 2.2 Odexed, OTA 2.2 Deodexed, and OTA 2.2 Deodexed with the 928Droid theme.

so let me understand this rite. the zip file i installed deodexed my fone + it also installed a theme. so if i decide to put on a different theme, do i need to uninstall the theme or can i just install on top of the existing one.

I've been thinking about deodexing for awhile. The only thing I really want is a dark notification bar. What I am wondering is if doing any of this is going to require me to wipe my device.

Basically, if I deodex and add the dark notification bar, will everything else on my phone stay the same. How about if I add a theme? I really am trying to avoid restoring from a backup.

depends on the ROM. most themeing roms do not require a wipe. the biggest thing is to create a nandroid backup of your device using clockwork recovery before doing flashing any roms just in case. that way you can restore your device to where it was before you flashed the rom to your device

Where can I find this nandroid of which you speak?

the way you create a nandroid backup is to use the bootstrap app to reboot into recovery, and then while in recovery, select the backup/restore option and create a backup. the backup will be created on your sd card, and you should also keep a duplicate copy on your computer in case something happens to your sd card.

if you ever need to flash back from a rom, just make sure the nandroid is on your sd card, and go back to that backup/restore area while booted in recovery, and use the restore option instead. the nandroid is basically a snapshot of your system at the time the backup was created, so if a rom gives you issues, installs improperly, or you just plain dont like it, you can easily revert back to how things were before you flashed the rom

Ok so does backup/restore mean you hold the volume up and power button? I have the bootstrap and rom manager when I did this restore/backup i got stuck on the m and hand to a battery pull? Any suggestions all i want is the black task bar???

i would go to the 928 site referenced in the thread, on the site is a zip file for a 2.2 deodexed rom (it's called back to stock iirc)

1. download that
2. place it on your sd card
3. boot into recovery
3a. (optional, but recommended) make a backup
4. select apply zip from sd card
5. choose the zip you downloaded
6. presto!

note, this method will give you a deodexed 2.2 rom with no theme (personally i'd make a backup here if it went smooth and then delete the previous backup, so now you have a nandroid of a deodexed stock 2.2 you can go back to)

if you like the 928 theme (personally i think the icons are too busy) then you can choose the zip with the theme in it already instead.

if all you want is a black taskbar with stock-ish looking icons i would recommend onix's theme (found in rom manager) or incognito which is what i'm running now.

I just want to say that was very easy to do,I tried the manual deodex method and I dont know if it was me or what but I couldnt get anywhere. The theme is pretty nice,I would suggest doing this method over the manual anyday

Im running the 2.3.9 leak, will this update load the new bootloader along with 2.3.15, or is it the leaked 2.3.15? After using this method will I still be able to use the 2.1 sbf?
