Automatic Download of video advertisement

Hi everyone,

I own a Galaxy S5 (international unlocked) along with Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Recently, I started noticing that it automatically downloads advertisement videos that appear in my internal storage. This happens irregularly.
Is this a virus and how can I stop it?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Welcome to Android Central! Does it only happen while you're browsing, or using certain apps? Are they appearing in the Downloads directory, or somewhere else?

Re: Automatic Download of video advertisement

Thank you very much for your answer!
I honestly don't know yet, as I have only noticed them on a random basis so far.
They appear on my internal storage directly, so not in any folder.

Re: Automatic Download of video advertisement

If they're on your Internal Storage, they're in a directory somewhere. Use a file manager app and look around, starting in the Downloads directory.

What do you mean by 'they're in a directory somehwere'?
It's that the automatically downloaded video appears in my internal storage. The file is not in any folder but the 'top folder' which is the one I open right after clicking on 'internal storage' of my file manager app.

Right, it's in internal storage--but there are lots of possible directories/folders it might be in. Your phone's internal storage acts like any hard drive, and a file manager will show you the directories/folders. The file manager usually defaults to showing you whats in /storage/sdcard0 (or /storage/emulated/0)--everything you see there is stuff the user can access or manipulate. The Download folder's directory name is /storage/sdcard0/Download.

Does the "top folder" you mention have a name? Is it Download?

What I meant was that it appears on 'device storage'. So if I open the standard file manager and click on 'device storage' the file will be right there (next to all the other folders such as download). That's what I meant with top folder.

Ohhhh, I see.:) That directory is actually /storage/sdcard0/ or /storage/emulated/0/ (but most file managers will default to that directory, so it seems like the "root" directory).

Are these mp4 files? Is it the same video all the time? Do you delete them, and then they come back? It'd be unusual for an app to be downloading something to that directory--file downloads usually go to the /storage/sdcard0/Downloads directory, or to some custom directory created by an app.

Am having same problem, Mobile Strike advert keeps downloading to the video directory on my tablet. Happens several times a week.

Welcome to Android Central! There's probably some adware on your phone--either legitimately or secretly installed alongside some other app. You may have to uninstall apps one by one until this issue goes away (if it bothers you enough).
