anyone having issues doing the manual update with a rooted Droid X. I have downloaded the file several times from two different sources and I when I try to run the update I get an Error in /sdcard/update.zip ( Status 7 ) installation aborted. I have tried downloading the update.zip file to my computer and copying it to the root of my sdcard I have tried using my phone to download the file and then using root explorer to copy the file to the root of the sdcard and I get the same results. I am confused. any help would be great. I am still using the stock Verizon ROM when I got the phone so nothing has changed other then the phone is rooted.

I had this happen when I snagged the ota early, then the ota was pulled. I had it happen again when I went to do it manually.

I did a full sbf, wiped data, and it still failed.

The solution for me was eventually to wipe cache immediately following an sbf. I don't know if it was just the cache, or if I needed the sbf plus cache.

My X certainly seems "zippier". Like the new dialer feature.
Installation went smoothly, from OTA 2.2 with nothing changed from stock.
Re-rooted with z4Root just fine.
All Root-only apps are working fine.
Best improvement for me is that the overall device operates more smoothly.

I've tried downloading it three times now. Everytime it gives me an error on Flash pre install apk or something similar. I've tried wiping cache and data first, and still no dice. I'm on Verizon.2.3.15.MB810.Verizon.en.US. Anything else I can try?

No expert here, but did you ever remove or rename any of the verizon bloatware apps?

If so, you'll likely need to replace it before the update will run. It runs some scripts to check and make sure things are in place before it updates.

I had root access and just had drocap and Titanium Backup installed. I was able to apply the manual update, lost root, and used z4 to get root back. The only issue I'm having is it is really laggy when I first boot up the phone. After a minute or two everything seems fine.

I was happy to see that the Battery Manager force close issue seems to have been fixed.

plower when you said you did an immediate cache wipe after an sbf can you please explain? I know that an sbf is a system boot file but that is all I know about it.

Thanks

I was running an nandroid backup I had from way back when I was just rooted. I had been running Fission. When on the stock nandroid is when I tried to load this update. I hadn't done anything but load Fission, then restore the old stock nandroid.

If this helps anyone help me.

I have the SBF, but I think I may just go back to Fission for the time being. It wasn't broken, so why try to fix it, I guess.

i don't know if this has been answered, because quite frankly, i don't wanna go through 31 pages - but regarding the problems most of us were having with the froyo update, we all had to uncheck the backup/restore option. if we update, without checking these back, would we lose our application data? on the flipside, if we checked this option, would the bugs reoccur in spite of the update??

This isn't a major upgrade like Froyo was. I think this update just replaces the buggy modules with updated ones. Mine booted up with all settings as they were with no need to restore anything, settings or apps.

I didn't mess with any of these settings and the bugs seem to be fixed.

Cool. Just wanna make sure before this update is pushed to my phone. I didn't wanna lose any data AND I'm just too damn lazy to back everything up on the computer and wait for it to transfer back to the phone. Thanks.

Yeah I just updated and rerooted.
I did not unroot or remove any root type apps. I did make sure no apps was froze before doing the updatezip tho.

All good,I did not unroot when I saw "shoot me" screen capture did not work, I just went with perm. root again :). Its working now along with the rest of root type apps

it is good to know that being rooted does not affect the update but does anyone have any tips on getting this thing loaded when all I ever get is installed failed. Just don't get it. Trying to download the file from another source now.

Update installed! Took a few hours (computer issues, not Droid), but I finally did it successfully. Only been using Android for a week now and I'm loving it! :)

The only thing about a failed install would be to make sure it's in the root of sd, the file name is update.zip, and I had install from unknown location ticked but I don't think I had to have done that just as pre caution by me.

Question

I wanted to do this update to see if it would fix my camera. (Sometime starts up black, other times it starts up then the view finder freezes) The issue seems to be occuring less (but still is happening) I am only having one problem with this. Which is the Gallery will not work properly! No errors during install and everything else is nice and smooth. I might try a SBF wipe data and clear if this continues. Possibly BlackDroid will get a nice stable Ultimate Droid X! Any suggestions, let me know.

root

Rooted with Droid-life method, after update can I re-root with the z4 method? Any difference?

apologize for the ignorance ;)

Hey guys, I have tried everything suggested to get z4root to work on my phone but it simply refuses to do a correct job. I got the SU app but none of my apps are getting root access(no su popup at all).
After three wipes I just want to know if I can use the old 2.2 manual method in the sticky above and if it will cause any issues if I already have the su app on there...
