I also wish they would release it and update it later, but I don't blame them for wanting to get it right...as long as they don't blame me for renting a phone from them while I wait.

...and this is coming from a guy who three days ago was saying it doesn't seem right to intentionally take advantage of the return policy.

I still don't hold this against them since they haven't missed a release date. All they said was it would be out before the end of the year.

Gherkin, these software are not essential to phone operation and as such to delay a highly anticipated phone and annoy customers to the point of no longer doing business with a company is a bad move, however you want to look at it. My verizon is a nice option to access your usage on the go, but you can literally do anything from #BAL, #MIN, #DATA and get this same info. Backup Assistant has a plethora of 3rd party or built in alternatives. At the end of the day, I refuse to allow ALL my phone numbers, contacts, and pictures to be on some verizon server. Moreso than ease its about security, cloud computing is not secure (well regular computer sure as hell isn't secure even w/ AV, firewal, etc, etc so both points are moot http://cryptogon.com/?p=25277). These are not essential apps and to delay this highly anticipated phone longer is a bad move, one more broken straw in my pile of broken vzw straws....I'm running low on straws.

I stand by my point. ;-) The vast majority of the people who buy this phone are not going to be power users. Most of them are going to be regular joes who decide to upgrade at long last to a smartphone and go with the Nexus because it will have the "purtyest" screen on display. Given that, they are going to want their basic, essential Verizon apps to actually work.

Besides, I am fairly certain that the Verizon reps would rather have a bunch of tech-heads griping on some forum that 90% of the Android world has never heard of, than have to deal with regular customers fussing at them over the counter.

Mind you, I ain't happy with the delay either. I've been sitting on an upgrade for months now and I want to see this thing out and thoroughly vetted so I can consider actually spending my hard-earned money on it. But, I understand Verizon's reasons for sitting on it until its ready for prime time (although given the amount of time it has taken since the ICS announcement, I would expect some heads to roll somewhere for fundamental incompetence).

Well if they would release the phone since it is working fine and those 2 apps could be updated later, then you wouldn't be renting a phone. Their fault.

The more and more I read, the more I realize it's because of the Razr and Rezound. This is very upsetting. Verizon, just release it web-only so us nerds can enjoy it.

If they aren't coming from a phone that had backup assistant then they wouldn't know anyway. Just saying there are other ways to transfer contacts(the machines verizon had and used to use work just fine)

Curious question.

I'm not taking away from this new information, but what i find interesting is the lack of followers from that twitter account, the promoting of their new site and the easy to make new information. It does look like a guy who received it from someone, i'm assuming, considering it look like it is on his person Mac laptop. The first screenshot on Droid Life talked only about promotion materials. Then conveniently someone else just all of a sudden pop up a new screen shot from their sources, i mean if the phone don't come on Monday fine, but all this rumor mill almost made me get a WP7 device, to bad i forgot Verizon only has one.

#BAL isn't basic enough for you? You can't send a text? Regular users can't text? These users you speak about are probably so un-savy that they won't know the difference between the program installed and not installed. Hell it would take me 20-30 minutes to do a Quick Start write up for new users to transfer contacts etc and it wouldn't require me efing up a power users experience. or paying thousands for coders. 1 piece of paper per box, problem solved.

Give me a break, these programs don't NEED to be on there and should be offered as an option, not forced down our throat.

Why do people care about bloat? It's a few mb of storage. Who cares. However, if they run in the background then fudge that.

Because people complain about everything. I use backup assistant so it isn't a big deal for me. Plus you can disable and hide those 2 apps in ICS.

I don't want them on my system in the first place. I was hoping nexus would be truly free of VZW bulls, but alas it is not.

My phone is basically broken. If the new date is the 8th I have to rent the RAZR or the Rezound. I'll just Rezurn it when the Galaxy Nexus comes out. At this stage the $35 is better than rocking a broken OG Droid.

So disable them and hide them. Nice feature in ICS.

Disabling them doesn't remove the software from my system....c'mon now. and it doesn't change the fact that verizon is hurtin ALL customers with this delay for a feature not ALL customers will use.

Or if they delay a major launch because of said software, then fudge that too.

Also, I see people talking about the "average Joe" buying this phone. How possible is that though? No marketing behind it...at least nothing compared to a Droid campaign let alone an HTC phone. I personally don't think the average Joe will go for such a device, mostly because they don't understand the point of it or even know of its existence. Sadly.

Hey my buddy who is a Verizon rep for gov accounts told me the same thing 2 weeks ago.....guess he was right.... and I got no likes...lol

This device may not be marketed to the Average Joe, but I know plenty of Average Joes with the Nexus S. It is a good phone with nice hardware/software, there are plenty of reasons to want it.

But there are also plenty of other options besides screwy proprietary software (such as os related getting started guides, front and back 1 page, with basic information to get you started) to help users seamlessly transition to their new phone.

I don't get it.......they released the Tbolt w/o My Verzion app and actually took months for them to get it on that phone.

Also......all this talk of renting phones only to return them for when you phone of choice is released....I hate that! Probably helps contribute to the high prices we pay for these phones.

I can understand that you buy a phone you intent to keep but discover you don't like it, but to knowingly by it with the intention to return it..... I don't like that. Just my opinion though.

All flopped releases.
If I could punch someone at vzw I would.
I would not renew my contract and say f you, but they won't notice. So what will I really do.... Grow $300 at their face and buy the Damn thing when it comes out
Vzw is a **** company

I could see VZW actually ordering less Razr and Rezound down the road by using the returned phones for insurance/warranty purposes. I don't like the idea of renting a phone and hate VZW for squeaking another $35 out of anxious customers.
