So originally in gmail it synced all my contacts to my phone...didn't have "my contacts" set up. Since then I stopped it from syncing contacts with my phone and cleaned out the contacts on my phone. also, i changed it so that if i go have it sync, it will just sync my contacts, not all contacts. currently, my gmail "my contacts" is empty. if i allow my phone to sync with "my contacts" on gmail, will it erase all my contacts on my phone since its blank in gmail, or will it upload all my contacts my gmail "my contacts" which i have it set to sync with? don't want to lose all my contacts but i would like to move them to the "my contact" folder. thanks

additionally, if you're not sure of this, is there a program that lets me save all my contacts on my phone to a single vcard file. then i could just email the vcard to my computer and import it to gmail.

You can first install mybackup from the market and back up your contacts, then sync, it should just move your contacts to gmail:
