backlight bleeding.. might go s4 now..

The GS4 is an excellent performer and I'm glad that you like it. There's absolutely nothing wrong with that - after all, if all people had same exact preferences we would all be using same exact devices. It's just strange to me that users of other devices, while being perfectly happy with them, still insist on visiting this particular forums section (as well as similar sections for other device's forums). Sure, they are always allowed to express their opinions (and I am not here to "moderate" anyone or anything), but... Other potential customers are perfectly capable of making their own decision based on either a first-hand experience with the different models in store, at their own home or by reading much more objective and detailed reviews such as on front page of AndroidCentral or other similarly "trusted" major websites... Why insist on sharing your more subjective and less informative opinion, over and over, about a device you don't even own anymore, especially if noone particularly asks for it? That looks like a pointless and illogical activity to me (no offense intended)...

Because the OP of this thread and others are asking for opinions of both devices. There are a few of us here who have not only used both devices but currently own and use both daily. IMHO that makes us quite qualified to offer opinions and in some ways even more so than professional reviewers who may base their opinions on only a few hours or days of use.

I visit many forums here, regardless of whether I own the device or not. And truthfully, although I chose the s4 over the One for my own personal needs, both devices share similarities that are worth discussing.

Ok, not being a smart-*** but if you need to go into a pitch dark room and look really hard to see these issues how does that impact your real life use experience. How often do you use your phone in the test like environment ???

My thoughts as well...

I have no idea if my phone would pass such a test. The display look great, and hat is good enough for me.

:) I didn't try to "single out" you, it was aimed at ALL people who participate in such activity.

Fair enough. I usually stay out of these fights. But it annoys me when people dish out things, but then cry foul when it's given back.

Good answer and I respect that!

My bad. Must have confused this thread with all the other one verses s4, should I stay or should I go threads.

I don't think it was supposed to be that way....but it dang sure got that way quick huh?? lol

I own the S4. I read many threads on this site, including those for the One. The debate on the merits/deficits of these two flagships will never die, as long as there remains intense consumer interest re: which he/she should buy and the bug reports remain hot.

The community's hope, and the Moderators' belief, that we'll have topic threads that don't constantly return to this fact is fundamentally unrealistic. The moderation will continue, but let's be candid enough to admit that this debate isn't going anywhere and likely won't abate until the Moto X and/or Note 3 is released.

Back to your regularly scheduled programming...

Amazon.com sells lots of cases for the HTC ONE. I use the Diztronic case, which I am very happy with. You can usually find cases cheaper at Amazon.com than best buy, radio shack and many other places.

You're right; the discourse and debate over industry-leading and industry-defining technology won't ever die, because it is always changing. There are always new devices, new hardware technologies, new software approaches, and new consumer opinions and desires. There are people interested in these things, and people who will be putting down money based on these things. In current times, these smartphones play a major role in our life, as explored in the Talk Mobile series.

We don't believe that discussion will inevitably return to an unwanted and unproductive state every time something in the mobile industry changes. If we believed that, we wouldn't put in the effort and time we do to try and keep this place running smoothly. We do, however, believe that given support and a relatively restriction-free environment (in other words, we don't explicitly say you can't debate whether the S4 is better than the One or not), the community will eventually foster productive, progressive, intelligent, insightful, and compelling content in these forums. If that doesn't happen in a thread, so be it. We'll act accordingly. Our allowing this topic to be brought up more than once isn't the result of an unrealistic belief, rather it is the result of giving the community the opportunity to take discussion in the right direction.

I had iPhones for 5 years and got tired of the stale OS and small size. The One impressed me with its Apple like build quality and I've had no issues with it all so far. I do find it hilarious coming from the "Apple Fanbois" club and getting trolled by Android users in the various tech forums. No matter which device people own, even two super Android phones people inevitably break down into their respective camps and feel the need to bash the competition. I'm a firm believer in competition, the more innovation and competition there is, the better it is for the consumer. Bring on the Windoze phones, the Blackberrys iOSes the more the merrier!

There are many moments when youre in a dark room and can see dead pixels.

For me, its laying in bed at night waiting on a YouTube video to load while its on its black background part.. they shine pretty good if you have them at the right angle..

No issues with mine all phones are going to have issues but if they aren't perfect to your liking then you have every right to return they are very expensive

Thanks for the reply. Candidly, the cultural paradigm noted above is not currently widespread within these forums. A majority of threads naturally evolve into a device debate. That's not an indictment of the site, and I appreciate that site staff/moderators want to cultivate what they believe is a productive environment.

Nevertheless, "acting accordingly" has typically manifested as more aggressive moderation of late, and more Moderators/staff actively participating in thread discussion. I recognize and can support the need for both. That same need for increased moderation is clear evidence that inviting the community to take the discussion in the "right direction" hasn't yet materialized. I enjoy the site and reading both editor and member-generated content. Nevertheless, I admit to being disappointed that this level of moderation is (apparently) required.

The agenda-driven debate isn't going away; more pragmatic acceptance of that fact might be prudent at this juncture. Cheers.

Getting back to the OP, comparing backlight bleed in and SLCD3 to what is possible with any AMOLED screen is always going to turn out the same way. If you know you prefer a true black experience, go with AMOLED variants. If you want a brighter display, go with SLCD3.

Each tech has its own benefits, you need to pick out the benefits most important to you when choosing a device.

good point, I can hardly wait until we start seeing some IGZO (Sharp's new technology) displays on phones.

The h8ing goes both ways.

I agree. Some people spend way too much time in the forums of the device that competes with the phone they own, pressing the "like" button for every post that bashes the phone they don't own, rather than just enjoying their own device, free of personal insecurities. Baffling really.
