Hi guys so I'm trying to transfer my texts/conversations off my LG p690-F which is a real old android device using something like 2.3.4, to a newer Moto G5 phone. I tried using SMS backup and Restore and it sort of worked... except my most of my numbers on the texts got changed to my countries international code +61 instead of the standard 04 numbers that are normally with mobiles. Anyone recommend a fix or another app that won't do that?

Looks nice... except free version only restores to same device, which i dont wanna risk deleting/restoring in case the same issue happens on the phone.

My own Moto G5S Plus sitting in a drawer and I don't have access to it right now, but I wonder if they have a migration utility - something similar to Samsung Smart Switch. If so, that ought to move messages from your old device.

I think it does but is no longer updated. I forgot to show screenshots of the what the issue looks like.
The first IMG is what it looks like on my current (replacing) phone and the second image screenshot is what that looks like on default messenger app when i transfer using any app
When looking at it via something like MyPhoneExplorer is also weird. When i sent a message it says the default number say like 0412345678 but when I'm receiving it comes up at +61412345678
I cant get a screenshot of that atm.

Using an alternate messaging like Textra seems to work ok but i dont want a 3rd party messenger

EDIT: Removed screenshots for now, will put them back up later.

I understand why you wouldn't want to use a third-party app - I'm similarly cautious when it comes to messaging in particular. But Textra is well-regarded by the community for its configurability, and it seems to translate your data correctly, so it might be something you'd like to consider using.

Regarding the transfer utility, I was referring to the options offered on first boot (or after factory reset) on the Moto. I'll pull mine from the drawer this evening and give it a try (I'm not using that phone actively at the moment, so I have nothing to lose on it).

I did remember something like that... Thanks.

SMS Backup and Restore stores to an .xml file. Back up. Load the .xml file into any text editor (preferably in a PC to make it easier). Look at the phone numbers. (.xml files are sort of human readable, even if you don't know anything about computers.) If the phone numbers are +61 in front of the numbers, globally change +61 to blank. (In the From box, put +61. Don't put anything into the To box. Then change all.) Loading that changed file should give you what you need.

Do you have a recommendation? notepad and notepad ++ dont format it right, cant see anything, and would i have to do them one by one?

So i tried your method using notepad ++ i replaced every +61 in it with a 0 however this did not seem to work, when i actually view the original document i receive the numbers via +61 but when i send they go through 04, heres what i mean just viewing it from a browser
