Backup USB to PC?

I see these backup/restore apps, some quite pricey, so I wonder: with a USB connection to my PC, couldn?t I just copy the whole thing to my PC to back up, and copy it back to restore? I suspect this is too good to be true...

any app that is paid for stays in the market under "My Apps"... forever and ever.

to save apps to a PC, use something like Apps2SD, and then save your entire SD card on your computer... its not like 8GB will kill you too much on your PC, will it?
