Bad Battery Life w/ Root

Download the app setcpu, then set a "screen off" profile with min & max both to 245. That will help your CPU run slow while your screen is off so it doesn't eat your battery when you aren't using the phone.

You aren't going to see instant results, you need to test the settings out for a day or so. The only other thing I can suggest is swap different kernels & play with the settings for each one before you find which one works best with your phone. Like I said, it took me about a week of experimentation to find the right combo, just be patient with it

None of the lean kernels worked for me, I just kept experimenting with different roms & kernels until I found the winning combo. I was down to my last nerve & thought that there was no solution. You can always try going to VZW & see if your battery can be replaced as a last resort

Try Perfect Storm with the included kernel (and maybe new radio). Honestly I've had bad luck with bamf after the updates from 1.4.

Perfect storm also includes "no frills cpu" which is a simpler version of setcpu. Just set the speeds you want, set the governor and forget.

somewhat better but still really fast battery drains

nevermind: it's back to horrible again, did a tango call and he didn't pick up and I lost 2 percent wtf !

I'm honestly thinking in just seeing if vzw can give me a new battery, or just buy the extended one, this is just ridiculous I can't use my phone for basic things

I just updated my bamf remix to 1.6.3 last night & now my battery life is slipping again too. It seems like the phone is really sensitive to small tweaks, so the smallest adjustment can make or break the battery life. I'm starting to make a checklist of things to keep referring back to, then try 1 thing at a time to see what effect it has. I've learned it's a trial & error process with this phone so I'm not as frustrated with it

omg... since I posted that the phone sat idle and lost 2 percent... This is so frustrating. Im just gonna ta ke it to verizon this is too much. It makes no sense for me to have to switch to so much kernels & roms just to get decent battery life.

I couldn't agree more, the phone should be able to go at least a full day on 1 charge with normal use. We shouldn't have to root it & jump through hoops just to get the battery life we want, but I don't mind trying different roms & kernels to see which one works best. It's a learning experience, granted an extensive one, but I'm stuck with this phone for 2 years so I want to know all the ins & outs so I know what to look for if something goes wrong

any exact procedure,,, do i uninstall rom first? or just go directly to un-root

Haven't had to unroot yet but I imagine that answer is in Cory's sticky on rooting. There's a section where he goes through the process for unrooting.

I'm going to try to go to VZW this week or next week. I am positive this is a bad battery.

I just unplugged the phone, and this isn't counting that time when the phone looses 3% since being over charged. So on top of that it lost 4-5% sending 2 text and a phone call.

edit: 20 percent lost in 1 hr 24 mins and counting idle

OK, since I've had my first real day of work since I got the phone and I rooted it last night, let me report.

Rooted, running Das BAMF 1.6.2 with a custom theme.

I had 98% when I unplugged the phone at 6:50AM this morning. I would consider this a pretty heavy use day, except I do NOT have 4G.

I checked e-mail 6 times an hour, I downloaded about 6 apps from the market, did some IM and texting, showed some friends a video, played with settings, took some pictures (3-4), uploaded them to google docs, made two phone calls (yeah, they actually still do that), DLed Kongregate and played a few games, typed on a forum or two.

Now, as of 10:25 PM, the phone is at 37% charge and has been at that number since before my last phone call over an hour ago.

Battery life on this phone is stunning. I don't expect it to go several days, but if I stuck to just texts and calls, I see no reason why it couldn't go a couple of days on standby.

From reading these and a couple of other Thunderbolt forums, it really seems that there are two types of phones (or batteries) out there. One has good to great battery life and one has poor to suck battery life.

I wonder if it's the batteries or the phones.

If you don't have 4g in your area, it makes a big difference in battery life. I have 4g in most of my area but is spotty in some places so the phone will bounce back & forth looking for 4g when it's not always available, and that eats a lot of battery.

I honestly don't know what to do about battery life. Below are my specs. I am at 50 % battery with an hour display on.

Bamf remix 1.6.3
4.4.7 kernel
New cdma, old lte radio
Brightness at 30 percent
Cdma-lte radio setting
1.28 max, 245 min, ondemand governor
