Bad News For The M9

The fact that people are already talking about the M10 might not bode all that well...

The only reason that I brought up the M10 at all is because I won't be upgrading my M8 to a M9 - there's really no need. But by the time the M10 comes out I will be ready to upgrade. But if I were to choose among current gen phones, I would pick the M9 over the S6.

Those are posted pricing from carriers in Canada. Plus we have 13% sales taxes here on top of that. I didn't make them up (-; Even though those iPhone prices look made up. Quite the racket they got going...$1,388.77 with taxes for the iPhone 6+ 128GB.

And yet a micro SD card with 128GB of storage is only $150 (+ shipping) from Newegg.ca, meaning a phone with microSD support can easily add that storage space on a lower budget.

I really cannot agree with you more here. Plus a smaller resolution means it can save quicker and be ready for another picture sooner, which I really appreciate on my M8.

I just really don't see a need for anything more than 8MP in a smartphone. It's more than enough for social media sharing (the M8's was good enough for that), you can edit them on a PC and still have plenty of detail, and they are fine for 8X10 printing. The later two were my biggest complaints with the 4UMP camera on the M8. But 8UMP? That's just fine. I would rather see a larger sensor at a lower resolution (ie. 8MP instead of 16 or 20MP) to capture better low light shots than a smaller sensor at a higher resolution. You start packing in so many pixels into these tiny sensors that they being to lose their functionality even for social media (mainly in low light settings).

These are the on contract pricing compared with the prices before. Damn. This is getting ridiculous.

iPhone 6:
– 16GB: $348.99 on a 2-year contract (was $264.99)
– 64GB: $478.99 on a 2-year contract (was $374.99)
– 128GB: $598.99 on a 2-year contract (was $484.99)

iPhone 6 Plus:
– 16GB: $478.99 on a 2-year contract (was $374.99)
– 64GB: $598.99 on a 2-year contract (was $484.99)
– 128GB: $728.99 on a 2-year contract (was $594.99)

I think we should just wait for the final units. If the camera still sucks at release, then we have right to complain.

Yeah...that is ridiculous.

Any word for the GS6 on-contract pricing?

Honestly, my advice to anyone looking for a new flagship model right now would be the M9 in the smallest storage capacity available and a microSD card to add more space and save money.

S6 32GB $250 on two year contract
S6 64GB $360 on two year contract
S6 64GB $470 on two year contract

S6 Edge 64GB $350 on two year contract
S6 Edge 64GB $460 on two year contract
S6 Edge 64GB $570 on two year contract

HTC M9 will be $200 on contract and $700 off contract up here.

I agree about that. 20MP is just a waste. if i was going to print a large poster size picture i would use a real camera for more quality.

It is my understanding that the M9 will let you choose three different resolution settings.

Large 16:9, 16MP 5376x3024, 100%
Medium 16:9, 12MP 4672x2624, 86%
Small 16:9, 8MP 3808x2144, 70%

This is a great feature so that you can save space in storage for those less important pics. There is also a chance that the M9 may let you capture raw images. Capturing raw images means no auto enhance will take place and image will not be compressed. This is good for those people that like play with the images, but bad on storage.

Just watched a video where the M9 has the same tap/slide features to turn it on like the M8. But it also has double tap to turn off! Negates the point of a power button on the side. I know everyone is different and a power button is a safe place to some. But double tapping just seems cool to me. I think HTC should think about doing away with the power button if they could. Like shake the phone to restart or triple tap....

Yes, I have thought of that too, but then there are still some times where I try to reach for the power button to turn my device on. I don't think it's a bad move from HTC, but maybe the power button is located a bit too low. I guess we will have to use the device to tell how it feels.

My M7 was and is just such a good phone. All I wanted was a better battery and a better camera. The M9 has the better battery and its still up for debate but I do believe the 20mgp camera will be better (well at least in daylight), but what I can't go backwards on is OIS. The M7 has OIS and after 2 years I expected it on the M9. I take heaps of videos of my kids, and OIS is just essential for shooting video.

Do you actually check your facts before making a relevant post? Noticing a trend with inaccurate information that you post. First you said quick charge is bad for phones. Now it's the duration of the S6. People are trying to post accurate information in these forums for the masses. They don't need people confusing them. We all want great battery life with a small battery if possible.

We shall see when they are released both the M9 and the S6 as far as battery life and everything else.

I Agree 110%. I just dont understand how anyone can comment/complain about a device they never owned or used let alone has even been released. Until you own and use a device how do you judge it off someone else's opinion.

After research on both I stand by what I posted. There is limited info on the S6, but don't think the battery will last longer than the S5.

There is this...

http://forums.androidcentral.com/sa...shows-almost-double-battery-life-than-s5.html

I think we all need to pump the breaks on both devices until the devices are actually released and there are plenty of expert reviews and reviews from members from this site.

Yes we should wiat for better reviews but where is the fun in that? I saw the review in the link last night but it was taken down almost as quickly as it was put up. That is only 1 out of about 10 that I have seen that gives the S6 that kind of performance on the battery. All the rest claim the same or worse for battery performance. So like I said as of right now I think it will be a little under the S5.
