Bad screen?

Does anyone know what could cause the screen to go dim on one side and have bright bars on the other? There's been no water damage, but the light sensor has been going crazy and the buttons and screen have been strobe-ish at night. In fact the screen wasn't working at all this morning until I covered the light sensor and switched to automatic brightness (which is counter intuitive, I know.)

I'm getting a replacement but just want to make sure that they won't say it's been damaged (never dropped, and the water indicators aren't activated.)

The picture is kind of bad because it was taken with a galaxy tab 2... but the right side of the screen has the bright line on the edge surrounded by a weird cloud, the left side is dark and kind of fades in toward the middle. The keys are still strobing. I just checked the water indicators, and they're fine.

The screen looked normal until it shut off last night. I was using and it started flashing for about 2 minutes, then after a battery pull it would just flash the splash screen for about half a second and the screen would die. It sat on my bedside table until I this morning when I thought to hide the sensor during start up and it looked like this.

Just out of curiosity, could an overheating battery cause this?


edit to add: You can't really tell from the picture, but the light line on the right is about 2cm perfectly vertical, and there is one on the right bottom about 1.5 mm running perfectly horizontal. The vertical one is surrounded by a dark 'cloud'. I know most people will think this is water damage, but unless it rained in my room last night, that's impossible.

may just be a defective screen, as long as it doesnt look like the phone has been dropped or has the indicators tripped, you'll be fine

i've also seen plenty of water damaged devices, and this one doesn't look like it

I think the screen's just defective, the white bar kinda looks like it might be the backlight? And anyway the screen and buttons flicker like crazy still.
