Battery consumption during standby / inactive

Maranzato,

when you get your phone, just keep in mind that:

"It may take several charging cycles for your battery to reach optimum performance."

(source: https://motorola-global-portal.cust..._detail/a_id/101063/p/30,6720,9197/kw/battery)

I say give it more than 'several' cycles, about 2 weeks of cycles, so that you've fully phased out of using the phone for setting it up (accounts/launchers/etc), downloading/removing apps, etc.

I've noticed when toggled off, it tends to report weather location wrong (i.e. giving me a different city's weather). I leave the gps toggle on, but on battery saving mode (out of the 3 options), so basically it only uses the carrier antennas to determine my approximate location.

Do you know if Moto Assist works in that battery saving mode? I am really seeking foward to the 'SMS reading feature' when i am driving.

That's good to know! Since I am a droid-noob, I need all the info I can get about battery saving tricks.

I made sure I was at 100% when I went to sleep last night and unplugged it and left it on the bedside table. I had a very strong WiFi signal and allowed it to maintain the connection while sleeping. I have two Gmail accounts synching but I have most individual apps (like Facebook) set with their notifications turned off. I also use Moto's "Sleeping" mode to ensure I don't get audible/visible/vibratory notifications during the night. I have GPS/Location set to High Accuracy and I use Google Now like a demon.

That being said, I lost only 1% per hour last night.

The prior couple of nights, I apparently had some WiFi settings and other stuff going on before that was draining my battery more than usual, so I made some adjustments back to what I thought was my original settings for last night. So I'm going to continue to try to do this nightly testing for a while just to see how standard the 1% is for me. That's where it was for my OG X and the X Gen2 on KitKat. If that remains, then that's definitely a good thing.

That is very good, indeed! Does Moto Voice / Google Now require GPS/Loc set to high in order to work properly? Draining just 1%/hour it should not be a issue anyways.

Thank you for such a deep testing!

Not totally but I have mine set to "high accuracy" and can't say that I notice any significant extra drain. YMMV, of course.

I noticed that I get between 2.2 - 2.7% drop an hour if screen is off, which is still a little high in my opinion (lower is better).
It translates to roughly 40 hrs standby time.
This is on wifi btw.

Hope that helps some.
Similarly, I have a new Moto X 1st gen running KitKat 4.4.4 and I was curious to know how much the phone drained in basic standby mode. So to test it I didn't use it and checked it every half hour. My results are similar to yours -- about 2% every hour, +/-. I have WiFi on (close to my router), Data Off, Bluetooth off, screen brightness at 20%.

Somewhat O/T...this is the first phone I've had with a non-replaceable battery. I always carried at least 1 spare battery with my Samsung, so I did some checking for options for the Moto X. For under $15, Motorola makes 2 external battery chargers. I got one on Amazon and it's useful to have in an emergency. I don't think it's powerful enough to charge a drained battery completely, but it'll get you by in a pinch -- maybe re-charge it to around 70%, +/-. Or else allow you to use the phone plugged into the external battery pack for a while until you can find an outlet. And the pack is small and light, has it's own cord (along with a standard USB port to allow you to use your own cord), and the built-in cord is long enough so that you can hold the phone and battery pack together in one hand. (Blackberry has a similar, more expensive device but the cord is too short and there are no indicator lights telling you how much battery power is left.) There are two similar Motorola models: The P893, which is 1860 mAh and has a grey cord, and the Motorola Power Pack Slim 2000, which, obviously, has 2,000 mAH, and a red self-contained cord. Just something to consider as an emergency backup. They're cheap, and they work.

(And definitely...Am Yisrael Chai!!)

Yeah those chargers are sweet, like how thin they are too. I was considering either them or a moto powerpack mini. Mini has less juice but is also smaller.
But because I have a cable at my desk, charger in my car and charger at home, I figured I'll hold off, maybe get when they're on sale. I have a larger portable battery, but it's not fun carrying around everywhere.

Definitely good options though, thank you.
