Lately YouTube has been EATING my battery up. I haven't even used YouTube today and it's been the main draw of my battery the last 4 hours. I've got it set to restricted which doesn't seem to be doing anything and I've force closed it multiple times already. Is this happening with anyone else?

I'm running Nova Prime with the Google Companion add-on so I still have the swipe-right news feed. The only time YouTube is used is through some of those thumbnails as previews. I don't actually open the YouTube app itself for anything.

Yikes! That does seem high! Have you tried clearing cache/data yet? I don't see that usage on mine (but then again, also not in a Pixel). The Discover page would use Chrome, if I'm not mistaken, even for video thumbnails.

Yeah, the discover page is the only place that YouTube is used for me. Those thumbnails will be videos sometimes that auto play a preview.

Didn't think to clear its cache so I did that just now.

How about disabling the YouTube app itself?

I'm seeing if the cache clear mentioned earlier works and then if worse comes to worst then I'll just do that. Just dumb that I'd have to disable a Google owned app on a Google phone that runs a Google processor. Lol

Roger.

Not sure if the Pixel lets you, but if cache/data didn't work, try uninstalling/re-installing (or if it doesn't let you uninstall, maybe it'll let you remove updates and then you can re-update from the Play Store).

So far the cache clear has worked. Now it's my messages app that's causing long periods of drain... Maybe the May update will help clean things up for me.

If I remember correctly, there's a bug with the messages app... go into the app, and make sure the camera permissions are disabled. I believe that's something Google's going to address in the next update. It was talked about here on the forums recently, maybe do a quick search to be sure if you want ;)

I think I recall seeing that discussion. I haven't been as worried about the message app issue bc I've noticed what triggers it for me. It usually does it if I've sent images (which in turn uses the camera since they both show together). The YouTube problem was much more consistent but the trigger wasn't clear.
