Battery drain issues: need help/other opinions, should I return it

Mine does the same thing. He was probably on idle. The standby on this phone is ridiculous. I can leave my phone unplugged overnight while I sleep on Wi-Fi, and only lose 1% over 7 hours.

My battery was at 90 percent and when i woke up it was 70 sumthing with wifi on. About same hours 7 or 8

Does your GPS turn on when you receive a phone call? And are you on AT&T?

I'm on att and I've notice my GPS not finding signal often lately and start searching when I wake phone or make phone call sometimes.

Update: just got a call and saw GPS start blinking again searching

I have experienced drain when I am on WiFi. Using it at the office with 4g during the weekdays i will drain <5% per hour. When I am on WiFi at home I watch the phone drain >10% per hour with similar usage.

I charged my phone to full recently then went to sleep wifi on and 8 hours later when I got up it was 99% battery life. If you are not getting this kind of battery life you probably have alot of things running in the background or you are gaming running intense apps while your phone is charging which is something you shouldn't do if you want your battery to charge properly.

Carrier iq is still on then. Make sure you end both the android system iq carrier service, and LG intelligent agent services under your running apps.

I have seen this kind of occasional excessive battery drain while on WiFi both on my G2 and Nexus 7. It seems like it happens on some particular WiFi networks, and it causes very high Android OS keep awake time. For example, on my home and work WiFi networks, this never occurs, but on the network in a hotel I frequently stay at, this always happens.

No clue what the difference is between WiFi networks this happens on and ones it doesn't.

i made some phone calls yesterday but did not notice gps turning on; i am on att.

i DID notice that the battery life started to drain very quickly AFTER the phone calls. it lost nearly 8% during 30 minutes of idle. i rebooted the phone and the battery life stabilized again.

I dont get much problem with idoling. Just when i use the phone for websurfing. But i notice the top battery usage is google services

High Google services is the location related stuff involved with Google Now and Maps.

It was likely the reboot rather than disabling Carrier IQ that fixed the idle drain issue. This hit my phone again on Saturday so I let it run overnight and through the next day with minimal use so BBS and GSam could gather as much data as possible. Unfortunately nothing stood out in the reports. There was and still is no smoking gun that I can identify yet. But there IS something that can cause excess deep sleep drain. I'm still working on it, but it's slow going because I have to wait for the bug to trigger without knowing what the actual trigger is. A suggestion over on XDA was to clear data on a few Google system Apps which I've done and now I'm in monitor mode again.

Do you have any more info on this yet.
Last night I lost about 30% over 8 hours (idle). I looked in BBS to see what may have caused it, but nothing stood out. It seems something is running, but it's a ghost (or I'm blind...).
I had Carrier IQ service stopped, but had everything else I use (Exchange and gmail sync, tasker, google now) running and syncing as usual. With all of that, I've been used to getting great battery life and I've not seen idle battery life drain like that with it all on.

I'm afraid not. This issue hit again after clearing data on the Google Apps and rolling back the update to Google Play, so that wasn't it. However, I'm currently at 52 hours off the charger with 4 hours screen on time with 30% juice left. It's almost insane what this phone is capable of when things are working correctly. I'm thinking about starting a simple log of things I do on the phone and note the time. Then if I notice on the chart that the idle drain starts, I might be able to track it back to a particular activity.

I'm used to getting 30-40 hours on a charge already. Now, whenever I see something funky going on with my battery, I panic that I will only get 20 hours out of it. Funny thing is, on my old galaxy 3 I would barely make it through a 12hr day normally. Thanks a lot LG!

Thanks for the update. Good idea about the log.
Even if nobody ever figures out the gremlins completely, this phone is still a beast.

I wish we could figure it out, my wife always asks me what I did to improve the battery because it's great one day and average the next. I hate to tell her I did nothing and have no clue why her battery is inconsistent.

I unplugged my phone before going to bed a few nights ago because it was already at 100%. 6 hours later when I woke up it was still at 100%!! Sometimes if I try to top it off too early in the day it will immediately show 100% when I plug it in. This battery is ridiculously good and recharges very fast. Much faster than my Note 3 did using the USB 3.0.

I've had one night where it was odd (you can find my comments above), but for the most part, it has been fairly consistent for me. After a reboot (which I don't have to do very often) I stop the following:
Carrier IQ service.
LG Intelligent Agent
LG Smart card service.
Weather service (I dont use the included weather widget, I use 1weather)

I don't know what Intelligent Agent is, nor do I know what smart card service is, therefore they get stopped.

I don't notice anything missing or messing up by stopping any of those things and battery life is amazing (except that one time I mentioned).
Right now, after 17 hours I'm down to 90%. That's with only 1.5 hours of screen time, so I really haven't used the phone, but I like that when I don't use it, it is not using much battery.

I hope you can get some better consistency with you wife's phone.

Regards.
