Battery drain issues: need help/other opinions, should I return it

Ok, so i need some help getting my battery drain issues fixed. I have turned off google backup and disabled carrier IQ and still get pretty awful battery life. It would appear that two Kernel Wakelocks are culprits: bam_dmux_wakelock and PowerManagerService. I did some research and found that bam_dmux especially has something to do with background data usage. So, I went into my data manager and found that Android OS is using by FAR the most data of anything, and it's all in the background. Check the copious screen shots for more/proof.

Any thoughts? These were taken today and represent a typical day in terms of both usage and battery life.

Bam_dmux wakelock are just background data wakelock, if you did not get continuous such wakelock, I believe it is not the problem

I am from Hong Kong where I experience weird idle battery drain and I found somebody experience the same as me, turn out in common we are all using the same carrier service, I believe the weird idle battery drain is caused by carrier instruments

Bam_dmux wakelock means there is something keeping your mobile data connection open. So, assuming you were streaming your PocketCasts, that would account for some of that time. So would Google Play. And Facebook. And Tinder.

I notice Home in one of your screenies. I wonder if you have a widget that is active.

Anyway, what I would do is, I would start disabling apps one by one to see where I get the biggest jump in battery. This should tell you who is the battery suck and maybe there's an alternative app that is better. Also, maybe download your podcasts using wifi.

What do you make of Android OS burning through so much data? The play store, podcasting apps, Google+ etc. All show up separately under data usage so it shouldn't be them causing that runaway Android OS usage...

Why not? They use OS API calls for all that. Maybe someone else can weigh in here too.

I could certainly be missing something, but would it then appear twice like it is with, lets say, google music or G+ appearing as it's own data usage item and ALSO falling under the Android OS item? Also, I feel like the suite of data using apps i have are fairly common. Is anyone else seeing a huge data usage by Android OS as I am?

I agree here. I would do a factory reset and start over, or start turning things off. I narrowed my drain down to google location services and carrier IQ. I consistently get 30-40hrs and 4-6hrs of screen time.
