Android Central Question

Samsung Galaxy S8 on Verizon
NY City

Installed Oreo one week ago and my battery drains much faster then before. My the time I reach work it drops below 90% when it used to be around d 95%. By 6pm its close to 65% when it was never below 80%

I didn't change one setting not did I add any additional apps. The way I use my phone did not change from one week to the next.

I've read that this is not an uncommon occurrence. Any ideas on why it happens and bow it can be fixed?

Thank you,

I just did a reset on mine about 3 days after(not a factory reset just power off and back on) Mine has seemed to go back to normal if not some days a little better.

I just did an FDR on my Verizon S8 after experiencing decreased battery life following Oreo update. I will report back in a couple of days...

How'd it do? I've noticed a worse battery life as well. Very frustrating.

I did it last night and I'm not noticing a difference this morning. But often it takes a few days to settle.

It appears to be running better. It turns out I don't think the phone updated properly perhaps due to the fact that I used BK Disabler to disable some of the Bloatware when I was running Nougat. I also noticed that my phone was running a little hot after the initial update which it had never done before. That said, I am pleased with the FDR.

I feel like its slightly better but I factory reset my phone after the update

In the UK on an unlocked device mine took a few days to settle but now a couple of weeks later and standby is phenomenal. 79% after 34.5 hours. I haven't used the device much in this period though.

I use my S8 frequently during the day and have found battery life extremely good.

my battery life is still draining like crazy when on idle or standby, anyone have this problem?

Have you tried wiping the cache partition?

Usually it's the first thing to try as it won't cause data loss.

I did a hard reset on my S8+ after the Oreo update and my battery life is back to where it was on Nougat. Took a few days to settle down but got there eventually.

How long did you give it? After I did the reset it took a few days before the battery use settled down.

You could try a hard reset. My S8+ is running great since I reset it. It does cause data loss so backing up is essential. You can try using smart switch on a Mac or PC prior to resetting. I've used that in the past and it's worked well. I would also recommend using multiple back up techniques until you find a plan that works well for you.

I am not what one would call a power user so my backups consist of using SMS Backup and Restore for SMS. I make sure all my pictures are backed up. Mail and contacts are cloud based. That's pretty much it. Just make sure you back up what's important to you.

I can restore my phone in about 90 mins because I've done it a few times and pretty much have a routine.
