Battery Life Fixed! Try these steps.

So, I'm directing this question to anyone in this thread that has a real technical understanding of the android system. From the name of the file, batterystats.bin sounds as though it fixes more of a reporting issue on the charge life than the actual charge life itself. It doesn't sound like this would actually cause the battery to drain slower, or cause the battery to accept more of a charge while plugged in. The result might make it appear to someone looking at the phone that the battery life has improved when it's really just not dropping battery bars as quickly but the battery itself might last the same amount of time.

Does anyone with a real understanding of what BatteryStats.bin does have any input?

Battery reading incorrect - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

Kind of goes along with what I suspected. This just fixes the reporting of the batter level, not the actual batter level or capacity.

I can't be sure but this is how I think it works. If the android system cant see an accurate representation of the battery level, it has nothing to go by other than false information. So, if the system only sees, say 5% battery level left even if it actually has 45%, it will think the phone is going to die after 5% battery loss, and therefore shut the phone down prematurely.

This is also apparent from my experiences with the opposite side of things, where a phone will say it has a high level of battery, when it is actually about to die. Ive noticed that when this is the case, the phone may show 50% one minute, and the very next you may have a red LED warning you that youve hit the 10% mark.

what I don't understand is if this forum can root and fix with such ease why can't HTC and/or Verizon incorporate into a proper fix for all
Doesn't make sense

Nice find. Thanks!

Edit: Tried it, and it doesn't seem to make any difference. My usual discharge rate for my phone is about 10% every 3 hours (so about 30 hours) and this seems to be holding to that. Will be interesting to see tomorrow if the phone automatically drops to 94% like it usually does after taking it off the charger.
