Battery life is awful

Turn off 4G (don't have a phone but you should be able to disable it), do not allow the phone to sync background data (menu>settings>accounts & sync), increase app polling times (how long they refresh), disable wifi if not in use.

That helps me a lot on my phone. Not to mention it's the first day you guys have it so playing with it isn't helping.

Oddly now that my phone is at 13% it is taking forever to drop lower even with frequent use.

Just to follow up - my phone was at 100% at 7:30 PM. It is now 11:05 PM and the phone is now at 13%.

That is ATROCIOUS. It's so awful that if it continues I will return the phone for a refund.

Ask them to use your restocking fee to research battery fixing.

There is not a way to only turn off 4G yet.

But as for the apps that is true.

You can go in and make it so Facebook/Twitter etc. and your email only sync every 2 hours or so instead of 30 minutes or 1 hour if they are set on that.

Also i usually keep my screen backlight % very low, like 20% or so. Auto screen brightness will kill your battery fast.

Hmmmm.....I knew this would happen but I didn't want to rain on your parade. The fact that the Thunderbolt comes with a 1400 battery is just flat out rediculous! Yes, the people who waited forever for this phone will do their best to boost everyone's moral but at the end of the day, this phone will probably flop. The LTE network is just way too small at this point so I don't expect this phone to be a big seller at all. The phone itself is just too big. I trully believe that most smartphone users on any carrier want to get away from phones that are either way too small or way to big. The phone is basically an Evo and for me, the Evo was a semi truck in the pocket.

What have we learned here? Never get too excited about the hype of a new release. It's just not worth the energy and frustration but hey, if this kind of stuff blows air up your skirt, go with it. At the end of the day, the phone has to be your choice, not what others in this forum think you should have. Anroid has some really cool phones and I have enjoyed everyone that I have used.

Staying on topic.....many are saying that the battery is really bad, I mean bad. The Thunderbolt with it's huge display and it's tiny 1400 battery will be the final nail on it's coffin.

Yes, the people who waited forever for this phone will do their best to boost everyone's moral but at the end of the day, this phone will probably flop. The LTE network is just way too small at this point so I don't expect this phone to be a big seller at all. The phone itself is just too big. I trully believe that most smartphone users on any carrier want to get away from phones that are either way too small or way to big. I will agree that the battery should have been bigger

The LTE network is just way too small at this point so I don't expect this phone to be a big seller at all..

But this is crazy, Verizon's LTE network JUST launched and it is already much bigger than Sprint or Tmobile's 4G networks. The network will not have an effect on the success or failure of the device.

Also, i think the size of the phone is becoming more and more normal. There are now 10 or so phones on the market or coming out very soon that are 4 inches or bigger. Seems to be a successful trend.

Looks like I ruffled some feathers on my honest opinion of the battery. LTE for Verizon is tiny as far as coverage goes. I live in California and LTE is spotty as hell over here.

For those that I ticked off.....if I had a choice of any Verizon Android right now, I would go with the Thunderbolt. Why? Because it's the new kid on the block.

Why don't I have an Thunderbolt today? Because I am extremely content with my new phone that I purchased recently and I have no reason to return it for a little more speed and a few other things. I guess I am getting old. LOL

GPS only truly goes on when a program goes to access it. I can leave my GPS, Bluetooth and WiFi on all day long on my DX and nothing happens to the battery life. Once the GPS activates (like going into Google maps or some other program that relies on locations) then I will start seeing the battery go down.

The bad battery life the original poster stated where he does not do anything and it drops like a rock sounds like the classic case of the phone trying to lock onto 4G and can't (or even 3G) so the phone keeps the radio on trying to lock on. The LTE coverage is small currently so this is expected. You CAN turn off the 4G, there is a thread on here somewhere stating that there is a hidden menu on the phone you can get to by pressing a sequence of keys and in there, you can tell it what networks to use and exclude the 4G.

Also, live wallpapers are battery killers. So is having a ton of widgets that require to update.

How many times we gotta go over this guys? It takes between 4-6 full charge / discharge battery cycles before the battery becomes conditioned. You should then see a noticable jump in battery life.

Also, check Settings / Accounts and turn off stuff you don't need, and limit accounts to checking updates & using data to at least once an hour, instead of every 5 mins, etc.

I had LTE on, full screen brightness, live wall paper, and was toying with it quite a bit, and the first charge still lasted 6.5 hours. It'll only get better in a few more cycles.

So I really haven't done anything to my phone other than install a few apps.

Tonight I unplugged at 100% charge and 2 hours later after doing nothing other than keeping it in my pocket I was at 60%.

Right now, I've been unplugged for 3 hours and I'm at 34%.

We "as in us" have known that HTC battery is weak. Just dump a 50 and get a better battery, problem good.

You must wear a pair of those skinny jeans if your complaning about the evo, it fits in that pocket thats above your right side big pocket. It's not that big at all, once you go 4.3 you won't go back.
But I do agree it comes with a ****ty sized battery my evo has 1500mah and mine lasts 10-14 hours all day moderate-heavy use.
