Battery life is bad... again

After the Lollipop update on Verizon, my battery life was really bad. I posted here. A few people suggested a clean wipe and reload. I did. Battery was much better again.

Lately, it's been really going down again. Looking at the battery usage, the top 2 are Screen and Android System. Sometimes Android System is higher than Screen, and I find that really concerning. I know Screen will usually be the top one (at least in my experience).

I have considered installing a battery manager to see if that helps, but reading here a lot of people say don't install any battery managers, task killers, cleaners, optimizer, or anything like that.

I have also noticed that if I am using Google Maps, my phone gets VERY hot. So hot that the other day after using it for about an hour, I got the notice that my phone was too hot and in cool down mode to prevent damage. If I am charging at the same time as using Google Maps, it seems like it is not charging, the battery meter still goes down by about 1% every 15 minutes. I do not use Maps every day (I might use it once per week), so I can't imagine that is the brunt cause of my problems.

I do not know if the battery drain and the overheating are related, but I just wanted to throw all the symptoms I am having out there.

I do currently use Tasker to turn my screen brightness down automatically while at work (it does other things, but the brightness would be the biggest battery drain). I have been using Tasker for years; I don't think it's a problem, but (again), just throwing it out there.

Are there ANY suggestions on what I can do? If a task killer, cleaner, or battery manager is an option I am ok with that, but which one(s) are good?

Don't install a battery manager, install a battery monitor. Like GSAM. This will just give you feedback and not actually do anything actively to kill applications or services running.

It should like something is wrong with the running processes. GSAM will give you more detail.

Maps yes.. my phone gets hot as well.. When I had Samsung GS4 it got hot as well..
However Maps process stays on 3rd most used even though I am finished with the navigation and Process still says it is running after a while even though I hit Stop..It takes about 7 hours to disappear from the list..
Have you done a Factory reset after Lollipop? Have you tried uninstalling your apps and install them one at a time to see what is killing the battery? Maybe one of the apps is not ready for lollipop?? ( I am guessing at this point :P)

Agree with the post above, use GSAM Link below is free:

There is a paid version for $2.49

Thanks. I just installed GSAM. Will keep an eye on what's going on. Any tips on what to really look for? This is new territory for me.

Gremlin. I did a complete wipe and reinstall of everything after Lollipop. I did not let it restore anything like WiFi passwords or anything like that after the wipe, so it should have been all clean at that point. I don't know what apps might not be ready for Lollipop. Main ones I use are MyFitnessPal, RunKeeper, Tasker, WhatsApp, Voxer, Keep, Amazon Kindle, and Hangouts. I have a lot more than that, but those I use every day.

I really do appreciate the help. I hope to find out what's eating the battery, and I will kill it. Will report back with my findings.

I find battery gets worse if I don't turn my phone off and on for a few days. If I turn it off every other day then the weird drain for no reason doesn't seem to happen.
