This face unlock seems glitchy. It seems like sometimes it's unlocked before I'm even ready to use it and other times it doesn't even recognize I'm trying to. Anyone else having issues?

Yeah the face unlock seems glitchy after using it for couple of days now. Works great but sometimes when waking up the phone you will have to press the power button or tap the screen to kick in. I also have seen that I need to raise it up a bit closer to face to work flawlessly. At some angles it works sometimes but not other times.

I'm pretty sure there will be improvements as we go along. Overall I still say works fine since I'm used to similar things with face id

But if someone is coming straight from fingerprint and using face unlock for first time, there is bit of getting used to.

Yep, I have the same experience. Works more times than not, and it always works, but sometimes it's a little slow.

I think it catches your movement so fast it immediately looks for your face, it's really quick.
A few times I just put the phone to my side and put it back up to my face and all is good. I'm not complaining, it works as it should!

I thought it was just me. Seems like the radar is tied into the accelerometer. If your phone is resting vertically, the radar won't turn on unless you raise the phone 90 degrees like you are picking it up.

My phone comes on if I stand or sort of hover over it without picking it up.

Having used faceid when it first came out on the iPhone x. These are similar issues it had initially, it only got better with updates. This is the first time Android has implemented this type of face unlock. It's going to have issues at first. Things will be ironed out with future updates.

I had the same problem with Face Unlock at first. But after about 4 days it seems to be working better.

The only issue I have had with the face unlock is when I put on my "costume" for a Halloween gathering.
Day of the dead theme, I had black around my eyes. Face unlock would not work.
As I took the makeup off I tested face unlock in phases, leaving the eyes for last.
Once the eyes were cleaned, it worked again.
My unscientific guess? The flat black makeup changed the reflection pattern.

if face unlock doesnt register on first try, double tap the screen works to try again instead of power cycling with the side power button and its faster

sometimes it works so well, it unlocks without me wanting it to do so though so I have battery saver turned on which disables motion sense, quick way to disable motion sense without having to go into settings
