Battery life is terrible on my Galaxy S3! Need help ASAP!

kray86,
You left out the Screen on detail, which is very important. Need to have all three of those data points in order to make an educated guess about what's going on. If you haven't already started a charge cycle just capture all three items again and repost.

From looking at the History details view it appears that the phone was Awake much more than the Screen on time would account for. You can use something like Wakelock Detector: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector to see if you can identify what's waking the phone so often.

Try this based on Samsung technical assistance, it will not delete anything on your phone: 1. Turn off phone
2. Wait 5secs
3. Hold up volume button, home button, and power button until phone cuts on
4. Let go of power button
5. When Screen comes up let go of all buttons
6. Use volume button to go down to wipe cache, use power button to select
7. Then press select reboot system

It won?t delete anything its something u Supose to do before u update ? hope it works for u

There's a very good reason that we ask for all THREE screenshots. Please fully charge the phone, restart it while it's being charged and then let it drop below 30% and capture all three data points.

It looked like you had a pretty marginal cellular signal, so you could also install GSam Battery Monitor Pro: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.gsamlabs.bbm.pro (there's also a free version) before you take the phone off the charger and include the Radio Detail screenshot.

That'll better quantify your cellular signal.

Re: Battery life is terrible on my Galaxy S3!

I bought my S3 about 18 months ago. The battery is not charging properly- takes more than 48 hrs to charge- while switched off. The battery last less than 10 hrs. Date- turned off. Wi fi- not used.

Welcome to the forums!

You have several possibilities:
1. After 18 months the battery could just be going bad. Around the forums a common suggestion is to take the battery out, put it on a flat surface and try to spin it - if it spins really easily it suggests that the battery is beginning to bulge, one of the first signs that it's going bad.
2. Try a different A/C charger AND cable - those things go bad like nobodies business.
3. It's possible that the micro-USB port in the phone is going out. Does the connector feel wiggly, or does it only charge if you push on it at a certain angle? A good solution is to just purchase a wireless charging solution. You can also get the micro-USB port replaced http://mobiletechvideos.mybigcommerce.com/samsung-galaxy-s-iii-usb-port-repair/ (or DIY if you're comfortable with that sort of thing).

Welcome to the forums!

This was a great first post! It's obvious that you did some reading and preparation prior to posting.

From 100% -> 50% everything looks pretty normal, but then your battery life falls off a cliff. If I didn't know better I'd say that something is wrong with the battery, but it shouldn't have gone bad in just eight months. It's possible, though, so you may want to check with your local carrier store and see if they'll give you a replacement, or pick one up online.

What brightness level do you have your screen set at? Since you have a great cellular signal, and were likely on Wi-Fi much of the time, the screen might be the biggest power hog remaining.

Thanks! I'll have to see if its the battery itself, any ways of confirming this? The screen brightness is usually on auto, does any apps that dim the screen help? Can a custom luncher (Apex) with theme (touchwhiz) affect the screen battery consumption in any way?

I've noticed its pretty unestable the way the battery behaves. Sometimes when I'm not using the cellphone it drops 5-10% in minutes, other times while using it, it stays the same for a while then suddenly drops 2 o 3 percent and after that it simply goes downhill.

Thanks for the help btw!

As I noted, the only way is to get a replacement (or borrow one from a friend that happens to have an S3).

You don't really need any apps - I turn off auto and set it to minimum unless I need it brighter.

Not really - if you're using a live wallpaper then that'll have some effect, but generally speaking the launcher or themes don't matter much (although darker themes will use less power than brighter themes).

That behavior could be a caused by runaway apps/services, but I didn't see anything like that in your data. You could use apps like:
BetterBatteryStats: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats
SystemPanel: http://market.android.com/details?id=nextapp.systempanel.r1
Wakelock Detector: http://market.android.com/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector
to look for errant processes or something preventing the phone from sleeping.

I think its safe to say its the battery. Last night i went to sleep with 70% and i woke up with 6%. I tried using wake lock detector but everything is alright since i use greenify on most of my apps. Im going to be buying a replacement soon. Any suggestions? I think im gonna buy Hyperion but i also found out about 7000aMh batteries. Are they worth it?

Problem: Samsung Galaxy S3 android battery draining really fast.
Solution: Remove the microSD card. A bug was causing the processor to read the microSD card constantly which was taxing the processor and draining the battery.
Other solutions I tried before I succeed: Inspected the battery to confirm it wasn't warped. The phone felt hot because the processor was working so hard not because there was a problem with the phone hardware. A new battery didn't help. Factory reset didn't help. Uninstall Facebook or any other app didn't help.

Ok, so battery life on my galaxy s3 has been terrible for the last several months. It would at most last me 6-7 hours. One of my chargers went bad so I decided to buy a brand new one. This time I decided to get a Samsung original instead of a generic charger that I had. The very first thing I noticed was how quickly it charged to 50%. I had not seen that kind of charging for a while. The other thing I noticed that on the first day it gave me 7 hrs charge. I was still happy that it was charging faster so did not have greater expectation. The second day it lasted almost 10 hours so it was almost a miracle waiting to happen. I just can't believe what I am seeing right now as I type..into the 3rd day. I am at 15 .5 hrs and I still have 23% charge. So this is a miracle and I believe this might be the biggest issue with many of the folks complaining about battery life. The other thing is my phone used to get really super hot. It is no longer heating up since I got the new charger.

So, bottom line, make sure you have Samsung original charger, if you already dont have one. I am planning to get a second :-)
