Battery life isn't great

I've had the Pixel 7 and 8 and now the 9 Pro XL. I was really impressed with the 8 Pro's battery life. By the end of the 10h work shift the battery would be around maybe 65%. My 9 is around 50% at the end of the day with moderate use. I'm down to 76% 3h into my shift, on hospital wifi as normal with similar use to the last few years.

For Apps it says Google is 39% of the battery usage and the next most is Message at 8% and then everything else is 3% and less.

Looking at the battery by "systems" it says 31% CPU, 28% wifi, 20% mobile network. Cell reception sucks in the hospital so I've generally always connected to wifi with my previous phones as well.

I know there can be some "battery break in"? where the phone gets used to your daily use, but I've had it since launch day and worked a bunch of shifts with it and not not any improved.

Any ideas?

I'm surprised to hear this because this is actually the best battery on any Pixel phone that I've had. Last night I did a battery drain overnight and it's sipping just like my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I would charge to 100% and then let it sit overnight while you sleep to see what kind of percentage you lose without touching anything.

I'll give that a try tonight and see what it does

Let us know how it goes. There's also the possibility maybe one of the apps is misbehaving, did you do a fresh install? Or did you carry over from the Pixel 8? I did it from the backup of the Pixel 8 Pro myself but sometimes something can get out of whack

I moved everything over from the 8. I've considered a fresh install in the past but that is certainly a ton of stuff to redo and it does such a good job of moving all the settings over

I totally understand and it could just be maybe one app or something triggered off. Hopefully figure it out so you won't have to do it through the reset. I would also double check all the settings to make sure they are normal as from previous phone.

And a full reset is an extra pain after you already sent your old phone back trying to figure out what settings you had with everything. I'm going to try the phone off Wi-Fi for awhile and see how that does

Just because of the calibration, I always perform a full battery drain during early usage and then fully charge to help the battery learn my usage pattern. Give it about a week and then report back and let us know how it's working. I'm interested to see if you are able to notice a difference.

How much did yours drain overnight?

Do you all have background usage enabled? I charged it back up to 100% a little after I started this thread, turned off the Wi-Fi, and I'm already back down to 73%
