Battery Life Thread

They (apple and Google) both say that by doing that you are using more battery than just leaving it there.

I have an OCD issue with that too.. lol. The thing is though, that you could have too many apps open accumulated over several hours an days, and that could also drain it, no?

I personally would rather my battery drain some more (not that it does really that much overnight anyway) versus cutting my phone off from people being able to reach me at night.

Who would when you're sleeping in the middle of the night? Unless its an absolute emergency that I could predict, on-call from work(but I have a separate phone for that), they can wait for me at least.

As you said "unless it is an absolute emergency" -- that is who. I would rather them be able to reach me versus my phone being off to save some battery life lol :P.

Pretty much... I have my phone set on Priority Only DND. But it's really not worth it for the most part, I only lose a few points overnight, and in the end those few points don't mean anything at the end of the day. So I'd rather have people able to contact me in case of an emergency.

Well, this is getting silly! I've been surfing, text messaging, reading Tapatalk and Twitter. Fifty-four minutes of screen on time. Battery is down only 2% in a tad over 2 hours! What a beast.

Wow at some of the battery life here. I have been getting on average, 2hr SOT everyday. Unplugged around 5/6am everyday, and by the time i get home around 8pm, it's mostly around 15% left (spotify is on almost all the time throughout and whatsapp web when i am at work). I do have to charge sometimes when it gets a bit low around 4pm if i use the phone a lot. I pretty much left everything on (location, gmail push, always on display, now playing, etc), with my screen brightness at around 30.

My Android also has a poor battery, and if I use the video, it can only last 2 hours or so. When I don't use my phone, I will turn off the WiFi

Spotify is on all the time? Surprised to see it last that long then. I use a radio app walking the dogs. Speakers take power.

Try it in safe mode. Difficult to see how it could be that bad without a rogue app or defect

Why are there such polarising posts on this subject?!

This is what makes me excited to get the Pixel 2. On my current phone (Droid Turbo 2) I'll use it in the morning for ~20 minutes and I'm usually down to 92% before leaving the house. Usually below 90% when I get to my office chair. This battery just doesn't last anymore.

Pixel 2, auto brightness set, 60 percent left, 2.5 hours screen time, 15 1/2 hours since full charge.

Is this good bad or average?

Yep, the fatigued battery in my Droid Turbo 1 was behaving similarly to what you're seeing with your Turbo 2, which had me wanting a new phone. The $300 discount at Verizon (now also at Best Buy) finally prompted me to go for the 2 XL.

Those of you with disappointing battery life--try turning down your screen brightness. I think running mine at 20% has a lot to do with my excellent results. Squeeze the sides of your phone and tell Google Assistant, "set screen brightness to 20%." If that isn't bright enough for you, adjust it upward by 5% steps until you find your sweet spot.

On a scale comprised of poor, fair, good, very good, excellent, I would say that is very good. You should easily get 5 hours screen time.

Mine is bad. GPS has been keeping my phone warm all day. Yesterday I had 18m of SoT at 49% off the battery left from a 3 hour drain. Sometimes a reboot fixes it. Project Fi sent out a replacement on the 1st, the 2nd one has the same issues. I just realized I never had a fully functioning Pixel 2 since I loaded all the apps on it the first time I got one from the pre-order. I have been constantly troubleshooting by loading and eliminating apps one at a time, factory resets, safe modes, replacements, etc.
I went way past the "buyers remorse" phase, only because I decided to work with Project Fi support. My mistake, they just keep dodging the issue. They rarely correspond back.
At this point, I'm done with Google. I had the worst customer service I've experienced in years.

Mine seems to have improved after the recent 8.1 update. Could be placebo I guess.

My 2xl is the best phone for battery usage I've had. I can fully charge it, leave it for 5 hours when I'm in bed with WiFi and location left on and awake to find it still at 100 %. I then go to work, use as a phone do a bit of Web surfing watch maybe 20 mins of video 30 mins of streaming and still be on 70% after 7 hours at work. Brilliant

I have a better battery life with Oreo 8.0, now with 8.1 update, I have to recharge it half way of the day. It didn't happened with 8.0.and my Pixel XL always lasted over a day. I did not change my habits at all. Definitely it will improve with future software updates.
