Battery Life Thread

I have uninstalled it and will see if that helps. Need battery life more than one app. Cheers for the advice. 🙂

the Facebook app had a toggle when you clicked on it in battery settings to "limit background activity" - doesn't look like the pulse app has that option. Hope deleting it helps!

I found a few others running constantly as well. One was the app for my cctv. And the other was maildroid. Both those apps had a toggle for background activity that I deactivated. Pulse didn't have that option. Dunno what that will mean for my mail app but I am hoping that turning off those background activities my battery will last longer. Thanks for the tip.

^^What was the battery % before you charged it, and right after you charged it? and how long did it take you to charge to the latter?

What often happens to me is that I leave my battery to charge at around 10-20% percent, and within an hour or so it goes to 80-90%. However, I don't think that's the true percent % because it shouldn't be charging that fast, and the battery trickles down fast until it stabilizes to what I believe is its actual/more accurate %.

My battery life is shocking in comparison to others. I have charged it twice today already. Took it off a couple of hours ago and it is at 60%. OK i do use it a lot for reading forums and stuff. I have taken some photos and read some twitter. But GSam says I used 40% in 3 hours 7 mins. And of that screen on is an hour and 37 mins. I use dark themes and dark keyboard. Brightness is 52%. To be honest I adore my phone except for the poor battery life. Yesterday I got it to last 16 hours with 4 and a half hours SOT.

Please can anyone tell me the best way to make my battery last. Bluetooth and NFC are off. I am using wifi. I am letting it drain to 7% before charging it to full. I am so disappointed that it is not lasting like other people have had. No screen issues for me. But battery life is just not good enough. I have the 2 XL.

I am using Action Launcher rather than the pixel launcher. But that couldn't be affecting it that badly could it?
That is really wierd. Do you have the XL or the smaller version?

Hi the XL. I charge from around 9 -10% normally and let it charge to 100%. Since I removed the pulse messaging app and recharged my phone it is lasting longer. Maildroid was also keeping the phone on in the background as well. I turned background activity off in that app and I still get email notifications. So it didn't restrict the app function. Now my phone battery is not dropping fast when on standby which it was doing before I made the changes.

It seems some apps force the phone to stay awake like those in my screenshots above. This drains the battery. Will see what my stats are later on and will post my findings.

This weekend was insane for my usage compared to the OG XL. I pulled it off the charger Friday morning and didn't plug it into a wall charger until Sunday night.

Using Android Auto over the weekend gave me plenty of staying power and I didn't use that much, maybe 4 short drives on Saturday and 1 on Sunday.

How long did you charge your phone from between 10% to 100%? Apparently it takes the 2XL 2 1/2 hours to go from 0 to 100%. If its taking less than 2 hours for you to go from 10 to 100%, it might not actually be at 100%. Once you get to the 80% range it does charge much slower. I've only charged to 100% once(last night), but even then I've noticed when I charge from 10-15% to 80-95%(which seems to fast), it takes like an hour, but it discharges fast on its on after I let it go until it stabilizes into what I think its the true/more accurate battery charge number.

More additional things you can do to save your battery is to lower the screen brightness settings, cut down on the sleep time(make it sooner) for your phone. You can also disable most notifications on your app and reduce the time it takes for your phone to sleep. One of the biggest things I've heard is to not let your battery go to 0% or charge it all the way to 100% often, as it puts a lot of stress on the battery and shortens the lifespan. Whatever you can manage if you want to. Its your phone, so you use it however you'd like. Other than that, going for longer sessions vs checking your phone every 10 minutes is more battery efficient.

I've had the Pixel 2 for a couple of days. Ran the phone off the charger the whole day. I used an hour of GPS, streamed music for 30 minutes, took some pictures, basic stuff online etc.

So tonight I disabled background use on some apps like Facebook. We'll see what happens tomorrow. I do second guess as to whether or not I should get the Pixel 2 XL. I still have about 12 days to make this work in case I need to return it.

Hi. It charged for several hours at night. It was the app issue mentioned above. Last night I took it off charge at midnight. At 6am it was still 100% left unused. Previously it had dropped several % just left unused. I have used it since 6:25am with a SOT of 1 hr 51 and it is at 77%. Battery estimates another 10 hours of use at my current rate.

Both 2 and 2xl here. Both kick arse. Easily more life left at the end of the day than any of my Samsungs did.

I has a pretty good outcome yesterday. Didn't get a screenshot though. I ended the day with about 60-70% left. Although I was at work and had the phone sitting on my desk most of the day. I'm sure because it wasn't moving that doze went into effect. Plus I also stopped background processes for Facebook and Gmail since I routinely check it on my own and don't need the app checking periodically.

So, we'll see how it goes. Have about 11 days left to return or swap for the XL.

I spoke too soon. I noticed a drop in battery when taking pictures... Not video. Is this normal? Is it using a lot of battery for processing photos in just 7 minutes of use??

Such bad battery life. I’ve hardly used it today. What do I do? 😪
