Battery Life Thread

Pretty heavy use today in my battery sucking office. Let's see how tomorrow goes.

Lots of YouTube and bad signal, still not too bad.

Funny I can not post a screen shot or photos from my pixel, but can from the computer and my Note 8... and Tablet...

3G? The horror :(.

Yes that side of the building is bad... Tower right on the other side of the building...lol

But it is worth the view.

Got my new XL yesterday. Charged it up first thing. Spent a bunch of time setting it up yesterday and today. I have 25% left with over 7 hours SOT. I am mighty impressed. Tried to take a screenshot and post it here. Screenshot came out as a png file, which apparently I'm not able to upload here.

Much better than a work day... Lol

Over 22 hours total and over 5 hours screen time on a full charge. Screenshot_20180107-012545-01.jpgScreenshot_20180107-012550-01.jpg

No launcher, all stock.

From the home screen swipe left onto the Google page.

In the top left corner of the page, touch the Menu icon.

Tap Settings > Voice > "OK Google“ Detection.

From here, you can choose when you want your phone to listen when you say "Ok Google."

Yes I've done this, it will prevent it from opening in most parts. However if I go to the home screen and say "ok google" it still reacts. It's kinda weird that I can't completely turn it off.

Edit: although it doesn't completely turn it off turning it off does significantly increase my battery life.

8% in 60 minutes isn't bad, you used Snapchat and it's a battery hog. You have the og pixel, maybe your battery is bad. What's your SOT?

Sorry, meant Pixel 2, as opposed to 2 XL. That was with 19 minutes SOT. I haven't gotten more than 4 on a full charge.

Wow, looks like your getting 10 hours all said and done on the smaller pixel. How did you do it?

Honestly, I don't know. I do surf the web, watch a couple of YouTube videos, check email, create notebooks on OneNote and take pictures. I don't watch long videos like movies, I don't play games or use Snapchat (which all use up a lot of battery). Maybe that helps. BTW, I'm getting about 6 1/2 on the the 128 Pixel 2 XL.

Ahh, that explains it... XL.

I'll say it again... Android Central needs to split this into two threads... One for each phone. The batteries are nowhere near the same, they SHOULD know that.

Man this battery... I just plugged it in.. This is the Pixel 2.

Can't upload a pic but I did 19h21m with 4h of screen time and 20 percent left. What the what..

We've just discovered a huge battery drain: Google Play Services. (Edit: that's what she called it, I'd now suggest it's Google Services.) My wife's XL is only a few weeks old, and I don't know if there was some weird update or something, but in the past two days, you can watch the battery die. Like a few hours. So we've id'd the culprit, shut it down for now and wait to see what happens now. Just a warning to others who may experience significant battery drop.

It took seemingly forever for my P2 to recover a better battery life after the 8.1 update. But I plug in at 10pm everynite and after hitting 100% about 12am, unplug, go to bed, lose 7% overnite but don't replug till the next night at 10pm again. So since my charging habits remain the same it is easy to see how my battery has finally improved from that juice sucking update. Usually do about 4 hr SOT and am left with anywhere from 30% to 40% when I plug in for the nightly charge. I can't complain about that.
EDIT: I don't even see google play services listed in my list of apps using battery. I'll watch for it tho.
Shows 0% battery useage for the past 12 hours. @zorro could it be that particular phone has a lot of stuff that requires GP services? I don't think I have that much at all.

Almost word for word the same experience here. My battery life definitely took a hit after 8.1. Now it has smoothed out and has been great for better than a week. No factory data reset although I threatened to do so. Glad I waited. This phone is phenomenal... Can a phone be phenomenal...? Well, mine is. 😁
