Battery Life

Got phone yesterday, horrible battery life! Even in standby mode it seems to drain more than my Shift. Went down to about 1/3 battery, took 4hrs to fully charge. Need help.

Went down to 1/3 from what in how long?
Install CPU Spy and see if your phone is ever going to sleep.

EVO 4G LTE internal battery (gasp!)

I upgraded to the new EVO from the original HTC EVO 4G launched in June of 2010. That phone was excellent with great speeds, large screen, and a kickstand. The one thing that was common but almost accepted by many was the relative short battery life. This is if you did use your phone with any meaningful amount throughout the day you would need to charge it or battery swap at some point to make it. But let's say you didn't really use it too much, you didn't stream music/radio on your unlimited Sprint plan or download videos or talk all day. Well, I'd bet you had a spare battery or a charger with you at all times, no? but your mileage may vary with other large screened android devices for sure.

How about the new EVO? To say it's been an improvement well, doesn't do it justice.

I know I'm comparing it to a now 2 year old device, but many "OG EVO" users are upgrading to "The new EVO". This is all I have to compare it to. This is how it stacks up for me thus far. I get email all day long, I make and receive phone calls off and on but not to a large degree as I average 1,400 minutes each month. I do browse the web and use apps that access the internet. I do not tether anymore without any "4G" available as of yet, hard to justify the $30 add-on. I have no live wallpaper, LTE turned off, I use WiFi quite often, screen brightness on auto, Best Wi-Fi performance UNCHECKED, I use no screen lock or timeout just manual button. I do have GPS on, weather updating every hour, weather animations with sound, update my location in real time, there may be other settings I'm missing at the moment.

Friday 2:35pm --> Sunday 5:00pm

50 hrs 25 min

So this is what I've experienced with my first week and a half of ownership. Day one screen set to brightest and playing with it all day I got 11 hrs. Since then I've got at least 17hrs+ battery life starting early morning of a weekday experimenting with settings. The results illustrated above represents light usage on 2nd day still far far greater than the "OG EVO" could ever hope to achieve. With the phone being out since May 24th there are pages and pages of EVO 4G LTE threads on AC. Many here are now reporting 18-48hrs of battery life. The overnight battery usage is literally 0 or extremely close to it.

How will it do with an LTE network to connect to? Well a growing number of people are connecting to it, but not enough yet to report experiences this early in launch of device and network.

As far as the EVO 4G LTE having a non removable battery, any concerns I had prior have all been erased. This is not just due to the far greater than expected battery life. It's also knowing that with at most half the number of charges or "cycles" this internal battery will see should significantly extend it's performance and life cycle vs the old removable battery on the "OG EVO".

As to why the big jump in battery life, maybe it's the new Krait chipset or ICS or the combo I dunno but I love it.

Got to be something wrong. I've spent more than 6 hours straight usage and been around 50%.
I had about 50% battery, been charging on standby for 2hrs. Still not fully charged, still showing amber light. No voice activity, just about 10min. using data. Not sure what BB's policy is on this issue. Guess maybe they can get me a new battery?

If you have loaded or changed anything, you might first want to try a reset to factory defaults and try it stock for a while, just to be sure.

3.5 hrs of charging the light is still orange. Closed all apps that are running, just have phone on standby, screen goes off after 45 sec. I installed battery saver app called Easy Saver, it's set to Intelligent Power Saver. I installed this about 2hrs ago. It shows display sing 58%, display is set to go off after 45sec. Battery is showing 94% charged after over 3.5 hrs of charging in standby. I understand this is not normal.

Lol..It amazes me that so many people are getting 2 days out of battery charge and the manufacturers specs don't even come close to these specs. This same thing used to happen with the Evo 4g..Folks would say they get 20 hours of battery time with "heavy" usage. Anyway, don'nt believe the hype folks and make sure you give your phone a very good test before deciding to keep it. Remember the battery timer doesn;t reset until you have a completly dead battery or a fully recharged battery.

I never ever got close to 12 hrs on the original EVO. This new EVO uses zero battery overnight. What kind of battery life are you getting out of the EVO 4G LTE?

Battery life was pretty damn good prior to installing the Easy Saver app. Its definitely improved further now. 23 hrs and phone was at 19% thats how long my last charge lasted before i plugged in. I play games a bit browse the web and send a good amount of txt not to much call time though. So as always battery varies depending on the user and even then it varies depending on what that user feels like doing that day :)

So far my battery has been impressive. I know it is at least double my OG EVO. And I have wireless on all the time now where on my OG EVO I did not. I did use 4G quite a bit on my old EVO.

It will be interesting to see what happens when LTE appears.

The battery on mine is nothing short of amazing. I was able to tweak my OG Evo and get a full day out of it, but not with heavy use. I'm on this thing all weekend long, installing ROMs, downloading apps, installing, uninstalling, texting like crazy, you name it and I consistently got 14+ hours out of it. I unplugged it Saturday morning at 5:30 and actually tried to kill it all day, but never managed to. I put it back on the charger with about 8% left and it was after 11:00.

One thing I did notice though is that the battery life has gotten better after each charge I think. My first day using it, it was just okay, nothing special. But, every day since then, it's improved.

You're right, but I was a math major. I know when my battery is at 90% and I take if off the charger at 10pm, and at 10pm the following day is still at 35% with moderate usage that is some damn good battery life. :p
