Battery Life

That's pretty bad if it was at home not even getting used. I was hoping to use it for GPS tracking etc remotely connected to my phone (left in the car or home) for even longer than 2 hrs. This is worrying

Yep, something is fishy. Let me run a few more tests and post an update. I love this thing, I just hope it's a fluke.

There are two different type of battery consumption pattern:
1. When tethered to your Samsung phone via BT. In this mode, cell radio and wifi are turned off and the battery consumption appears to be better unless your phone have problem with the BT 4.0 LE connection. IIRC, if you set mobile data always on, it may still have cell radio on.
2. When you no longer connected via BT. In this case, your cell radio and wifi will both be on. If wifi is on and connected, it will turn off mobile data but your watch will still connect to cell tower for phone calls and SMS to the watch's number. In this mode, remote connected or not, the battery consumption is much higher. I can literally watch the battery meter drop.
So, make sure you listed how much time your watch is on each mode when comparing battery life.

Yesterday, I have the about 3 hours in remote connected mode and rest is BT tethered. My battery life is about 12 hours before it dropped to 6%.

Today, I'm going to turn off the motion gesture for watch face and see if there is any difference. So far, it seems fair better while remain BT tethered.

Should remote connection only be on when you're away from your phone to cut back on battery drain? If remote connection is on do you need to turn forwarding on as well?

I'll answer in your other post.

I assume that Screen brightness will also be a factor? Today is my first full day with the watch and it has been on exactly 9 hours and is at 50%. It has been BT connected 8.5 hours of that time. My screen is at full brightness.

Oh for sure...that's a big draw on phones, laptops, etc.

thats weird got up at 9 and by 3 mine was dead battery life is shocking no way people are getting 20 hours

That's why I'm asking so many questions trying to figure it out. I'm late to the party because of availability issues here but anyways, I'm below 30 percent in just over 5 hours from full charge. I figured I must be doing something wrong with remote connect and forwarding. I'm guessing those are my issues.

I've noticed that sometimes when I go out with my watch by itself, it will stay connected remotely when I come back within bluetooth range. This is concerning because the battery does indeed drain incredibly rapidly when remotely connected.

Im gonna try it out for this week and if I can't get better life it's going back and I'll wait for version 2. My Gear 2 is awesome as I can get 2 and a half or 3 days off of 1 charge. I'm a little nervous abort this now but we'll see, I gotta at least break it in lol.

Wow...hmmmm, maybe I have a lemon or something. It's dead and now my Gear 2 is right back in my wrist. I'm gonna let the S fully charge and won't touch it until morning and try again. I hope for an improvement.

I'm beginning to think standalone and NOT connected remotely gives the best battery life using the Gear S SIM only. Got ~40 hours on my first charge. In a half hour I'll have gotten another ~24 hours out of the 50% from the battery backup. Right now it's still got 9% left.

So far that's ~64 hours without recharging anything (phone or backup charger) and when it dies once again, I'll snap the backup charger on again to see if it still has 50% in it; hopefully transferring another 25% over to the phone. (ADDED: THIS THOUGHT ON MY PART IS WRONG. THE BACKUP BATTERY USES ALL IT'S POWER THE FIRST TIME IT IS USED TO CHARGE THE PHONE BATTERY. DARN! IMO SAMSUNG NEEDS TO INCREASE THE 350mAh OF THE BACUP BATTERY SO IT PROVIDES A 100% CHARGE)

I'm just finishing day three with the initial phone and backup charged only once!

I am replying to my own post for an update. Went to the gym today for 2 hours, left watch at home again, but brought phone and left in car. Battery might have drained 8-10% at most. Good to go, so I'm stumped as to what happened the other day. I'll keep watching this.

Standalone may have a better battery but won't you loose you emails and notifications and have to
Give everyone a new number ?

Pretty much. Although you could set your phone to forward all calls to your Gear S number so you at least still receive calls whilst you're away from the phone
